Closed What happened to the thread about ARAZPA?

I see that it was deleted by Sim due to a "potential for misunderstanding".

I understand that ZooPro as unsatisfied with the title of the thread created by ZYBen. That is a valid reason for changing the title (which it might appear was created by ZooPro) but not to delete the entire thread, including several of my posts.

I expect to be able to engage in discussion about all aspects of Australian zoos, including the politics and procedures involved with collective management through ARAZPA. My posts were critical of specific aspects of ARAZPA, but were not in any possible way criticisms that could be justifiably removed on defamation grounds. Nor were they offensive or derogatory of anybody in any way.

I therefore request that the thread be re-instated (as I am aware can be done using vBulletin forum software) under a new title that is amenable to ZooPro.

I think the thread got off on the wrong foot as an unfortunate consequence of the way in which it was edited (I have no problem with the way it was edited - but there were unforseen side-effects). As such, I think the thread took on a tone that was not going to be helpful to the debate at all. I thought it better to clear the slate and allow a fresh debate to be started if someone thought it was worthwhile.

I'm happy to extract the posts you made in that other thread and send the content to you if there were points you want to use in a new thread.

Sim, what I would like is for the perfectly reasonable and respectful exchange between myself and MRJ to be restored to the public record. I understand that a complaint was made by a member of the forum but if you intend to respond to every complaint (particularly, it must be said, by "zoo pros") with blanket deletions that is a very unfortunate approach which lessens the value of Zoochat.

I've been a moderator - and, indeed, an administrator - on other websites in the past. I know how hard it can be and I don't wish to come across as carping. But I think it's important to get this right.

I'll add, just for the record, and before I am accused of something that I don't have responsibility for, that I did not ask for the thread to be deleted, merely renamed. As GCSwans pointed out, I was not happy with the first message of the thread being one of mine, that was subsequently given a subject and thread title that I did not write, and was not pertinent to my comments in that message.

I'm in the process of chopping out the middle bit of the thread which I think is salvageable and re-posting it. It will take me a bit to get it finished, but I'll link back to it once it is done.

I don't respond to complaints with deletions except where it is warranted.

In this case, the start of the thread and the end of the thread were problematic - I didn't have time to edit the thread, and it would have been unfair to leave it where it was given the issues.

I've now gone through the thread and have managed to extract enough content that I feel is worth salvaging and resurrected that part of it. You can find it here: http://www.zoochat.com/24/arazpa-137002/
