Yorkshire Wildlife Park Camels?

I have heard that camels were supposed to be arriving last week. Does anyone know what has happened to this idea and where in the park will they be housed?

it was mentioned when we visited a couple of weeks ago, but there is nothing on the website.

Maybe, but if they are not going to be on show maybe they won't publicise their arrival until people can go & see them.

I'm wondering if they came from Cricket St Thomas which is dispersing its large animals (and had a number of camels)

Cricket St Thomas also sent there 1:1 Zebra there in October so wouldn't it of been more convinient to take all the animals in 1 trip?

Probably not - it takes a fair amount of time to load and unload animals so moving all of them at once may not have been feasible. Also, they may not have had enough van space! And of course, there's nothing to say they had agreed the camel move at the time of the zebra move.

I've nothing more than circumstantial evidence, but I strongly suspect the camels are from Cricket.

I went yesterday and confirmed there are 6 - two castrated males, a calf (male I think) and 3 females.

They are in the paddock (sort of behind the wallabies) where they will eventually be shown but there is currently no public access. They hope to have the road finished by when they properly open again next spring, the park is extending in that direction.

Any inaccuracies due to seive-like memory & the icey wind:) .

Well I went today and you'll be please to know you can finally get down to see the camels!

This also means you can get down the side of the African Plains so I got a real close-up of the addax and the zebra (female still appears pregnant)

One of the ringtail lemurs produced 2 babies yesterday. She was leaping about high in the trees today, it's the one with the short tail (Humbug) so easy to spot. The ruffed lemur is also pregnant but had a Caesarian last time & the babies didn't survive so they are not sure how it will go this time.

Do you know if the Addax are likley to breed?

I don't THINK the current male has the necessary, but maybe they'll get another one. They are definitely moving out of the African Plains, as someone told me previously, because on the new map they are where the guanaco currently live.
