Football World Cup 2010

Well the World Cup is underway, so thought start a thread to discuss anything world cup related here.

Well then, why doesn't the BBC broadcast every game on BBC 1 or BBC 2, but chooses to show the tennis instead. At least the dutch reporter during South-Africa - Mexico is doable, but we have some really annoying ones and it would be pretty annoying if i had to endure that commentary for 90 mins instead of listening to the proper english commentary...

Dutch are gonna win anyways, so all the excitement is more or less gone :(

Due to broadcasting laws in the UK, the games are shared between ITV and the BBC.

Not sure the Dutch will do much and all eyes will be on Spain to see if they can repeat their actions from the European Championships. I really don't think there is any firm favourites out there and could be one of 8 or more teams that could win it this year.

P.s. I like Tennis, so will be watching one of the other depending on whos playing.

There's a big chance our team will do fine this year. We've got the best players, and a good team, so I think that we should at least be able to reach the semi-finals. And a final between the netherlands and germany would be a dreamscenario, because we would finally have the chance to pay them back for 1974;)

I think the Dutch have a good chance :)

Predictions for today's games:
Algeria 0-0 Slovenia
Serbia 2-1 Ghana
Germany 1-0 Australia

I don't care who wins as long it's not the French, they cheated and knocked out Ireland.

It's a shame Mali didn't qualify, I would like to see if Mamady Sidibe is as bad at scoring for them as he is for Stoke.

Would probably have scored a hat trick in the first game, only to be shown up by Stokes Meerkat scoring 6!!

Algeria 0-0 Slovenia

And for tonight's and tomorrow's

Italy 2-1 Paraguay
New Zealand 0-2 Slovakia
Cote d'Ivoire 1-1 Portugal
Brazil 5-0 North Korea

Any other predictions

I've picked a team now, I'm supporting the Netherlands. I remember seeing Ajax play Stoke off the park in 1974, so I've always admired the Dutch football team.

Bad choice of words, I meant I'm picking the Netherlands to win the world cup.

During the 2006 World Cup someone kept writing to the local paper saying England would not win the world cup becuase they did not have a Stoke player in the squad. They won in 1966 and Gordon Banks was the goalkeeper.

Eventually someone got fed up of his coments and pointed out that Gordon Banks did not sign for Stoke until 1967.

So far the competition has been a real stinker, hopefully now there will be a real urgency for teams to qualify for the next round, looking forward to France v Mexico.

France seem to have retreated to their pre-1998 ennui (plus they have Millhouse's dad from The Simpsons in charge). Maybe Mexican football will finally shrug off its 'sleeping giant' potential to make a real breakthrough.

My prediction is that a goalkeeper will score at some point, what with the crazy ball and the thin air at altitude.

France have annoyed me they cheated to get through to the World Cup and have hardly shown up at all. They deserve to be knocked out.

Although they lost their last game, South Korea is my bet. Music industry is huge over there and an extremely popular group known as super junior made a theme song for theme, known as victory korea.

Check it out:
I love the song ( as I do with most super junior songs) This probably will lift their spirits. ;)

Other than them, Australia, Japan and Italy...
