Just a few updates from this growing zoo in Pembrokshire

A female Brazilian Tapir named Rio has arrived as a mate for the park's resident male Tommy. Doesn't say where she is from but Marwell had a calf of the same name last year so it could be her? A new house has recently been built for them.

A female Przewalksis horse has arrived or is coming to join the batchelor herd at some point this year. Possibly from the old Chester herd or Welsh Mountain?

An African Village is under construction and will house the park's pygmy goats and possibly a few extra species.

The park will recieve there first White Rhino later this year. They will be a batchelor group until 2013 when one leaves and female/s arrive. The inital plan was that they would be imported from Africa but due to finacial problems they may end up coming from other European zoo's now.

Steve the male Siamang Gibbon has finally ventured out onto the Island exibit they built for him and his mate Lisa last summer. They will hopefully breed next year

Overall it look's to a very positive year for the park so far!

I think it could be a wonderful park and I hope the African Village is designed well and has some more exotic species!

Why do I recognise the name Rio for a Tapir, maybe from Marwell but I recognise the name. Are the Tapirs still in the wildlife area from the series?

I can confirm that the other Rio is still at Marwell (at least she was last week )

I visited today . The park now opens all year round - previously closed from end September to Easter . I do wonder if they will get any visitors on cold , wet winter days . After the recent accident with a falling branch , I was not surprised to find that a lot of large trees have been felled .

The 'African Village' is behind the Lemur Enclosure and looks more or less finished . Shame it is for 'domestics' .

The herd of American Bison have all gone - I thought they were the most impressive animals in the Park . There are now only 3 Ostrich in the large paddock . No sign of a Rhino House being built , I wonder if the basic agricultural building at the bottom of the paddock will be adapted . No sign of the Oryx that were supposed to have arrived in the Summer , they are on the map as being in the large paddock .

The Brazilian Tapir Rio came from Odense where she was born in 2008 , the male Tommy was born at Chester in 2002 , no sign of them - their stable does not have a viewing window . They share what was the Camel Paddock with Llamas and a Rhea .

The pair of Siamang were in their House both times I checked . A number of the trees on their island are dead . A very late baby Ring-tailed Lemur was in the Walk-through . The group of Common Marmoset looked good searching for insects in the trees on their Island .

An enormous carved Dragon has appeared on the lawn - I believe it came from Glastonbury .

A sign says that the Bactrian Camel born some time ago was a rare grey example . It is the same brown colour as its parents now - I thought they are all grey at birth .

The old Siamang ( before that Chimp ) Cage has Green-Winged Macaws labelled , none seen .
