Jaguars have arrived at South Lakes Wild Animal Park! :D They are 1:1 and arrived on 19th June. The female is seven months old and was handreared at Sarbruken Zoo in Germany. The male is slightly older and came from Le Parc Des Felins near Paris. They are currently being kept in the Amur Tiger house and alternating the outside exibit with Nina the remaining tigeress.

The original male was coming from Berlin Zoo but was killed by his father before the shipment went ahead. :(

Yet another species to mix in with the bears and tapirs ;p. Seriously, I didn't even know they were getting Jaguars, do they not have an enclosure ready or will they keep on with a rotation until the tigress dies/moves?

When I visited in May, it was clear that there was no room for a new jaguar enclosure to be built, and as Nina will, I think, be 15 years old next month, I wouldn't be surprised if the rotation with her is continued until her death.

The plan is that when the park is expanded (over the next couple of years) the Sumatran Tigers will have a new exibit built for them and the Jags will then have the vacant enclosure.
