Cairns Tropical Zoo (Closed) tiger cub?

Saw a news add, something about a tiger cub at Cairns, but missed the news. Does anyone know about it?

why are zoos so slack with putting information on their websites? Nothing about a tiger cub on Cairns Tropical Zoo site and still nothing on the Adelaide Zoo site about the baby gibbon. You'd think if they have the time to put out a press release about a birth then they could put even a short note on the news section of their own website!

(p.s. went to the Cairns Wildlife Safari site first by mistake and I have to say I hate their website, it looks awful! - but I really like the Cairns Tropical Zoo site, very clean and easy to use)

Some zoos are really good about putting info on their websites, others are really slack. Considering that they could simply put the press release on their wesite without any changes it shouldn't be too difficult. Mind you they could also provide more info as well.

Consider for a moment. It is much easier for management to dictate a press release for admin staff to circulate to media than it is get the IT savvy person on staff [ or even an outside service ] to get into the website and update it. Yes, I'm speaking from experience! I can rattle off a press release in 10 seconds flat but I have to wait for my wife to update the website. Given her not inconsiderable workload, the website updating tends to be a fair way down her list of priorities. I currently have 7 links to add to our Links page, the arrival of the Blackbuck to record as well as a couple of births. As there will shortly be another notable arrival, the tendency has become to wait for it all to happen and then update the site in one hit.

That's our excuse!!

Sounds interesting Steve, note to self, must check out your site regularly for the interesting arrival:)
I think that your excuse is valid but a big business like the main zoos would have external contracters for their websites wouldn't they? Not to mention Media departments. It would be part of the job of the media dept. to notify the company looking after the website about press releases and it should be part of the contract that websites are updated in a timely manner.
Mind you, working for a govt. department the number of times that we have found out we are providing 'x' sercice to the public from the daily paper is alarming.

That's because Cairns Tropical Zoo don't [yet] keep tigers!

The tigers are at Cairns Wildlife Safari Reserve.
well I went to Cairns Wildlife Safari's website first because that's where I assumed the cub would be, couldn't find anything at all, so had a look at the thread again and saw it was posted as Cairns Tropical Zoo. Either way, nothing on the site.

As Jay also said, your excuse for news being slow to be put on a zoo's website (post #8) is certainly valid for a small zoo with limited staff time, but certainly not (I would argue) for a large zoo such as Adelaide

A slight re-structure of your website, Steve, could make it just as easy to post news as it is for you to post on this forum. All you need to do is create a blog.

here's the news (from the media, not the zoo website ;)):
Tiger cub makes public debut at Cairns zoo - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
A "miracle" tiger cub born at a far north Queensland zoo six weeks ago has made his public debut.

The male Sumatran tiger born at the Cairns Wildlife Safari Reserve is the second cub born at the zoo.

Another cub born at the zoo last year died of complications.

Zoo managing director Jenny Jattke says the cub's mother, Louise, was on birth control when she became pregnant.

"She is 14-years-old so that's equivalent to a 60-year-old female so that's quite incredible in itself to give birth to him," she said.

"She hasn't had cubs before so at 14 to be a mother, is pretty special."

Ms Jattke says the new cub, who is yet to be named, is already stealing hearts.

"He's very, very bossy and letting everyone know who's boss," she said.

"He knows how to throw a good temper tantrum and if he doesn't get his own way, you hear about it."

Thank you Childonias fior the link. Steve I'm coming for a visit in a few weeks time.

I will be away during the first week.;););)[/QUOTE]

Steve would that be to look for a pair of Green-winged Macaws for the collection :D ;)
