Trotters World of Animals (Old) Zebra Foal

A lovely result. I've never heard of this place, so it's another place for to look up
 
the first to be born in the North of England? Even if that was true, which it isn't, what sort of a claim is that?!

Funny but I always thought Chester and Blackpool were in the North of England,and they have both breed Zebras long before Trotters even opened!
 
actually the sentence reads "The foal is a Grant Zebra, one of the first of its kind to be born in the north of England."

Personally, however, I really hate that phrase anyway..."one of the first...", like "one of the only..." it is pretty meaningless
 
I also do feel that zoos should be very conservative in using the phrase "first in". If not a zoo registrar is employed who can confirm by research, a marketing dept. should not ... take this angle over to the public.

If the truth "stinks" it will ... even eventually ... come out (and it will make a zoo as a professional wild animal and plant management facility look very stupid indeed).

On face value:
true - a first (Grant's) zebra foal for Trotters AW.
false - a first (Grant's) zebra for North of England.
 
Out of the 5 responses to the news four are already showing negativity to the collection because the BBC (not Trotters) have made a claim that you disagree with.

With regards to North of England, it all depends on your definition and you can't get any further north than Cumbria.

as you are including my post (#5) in your total, I suggest you actually read what I wrote. I was pointing out that the two prior posters had misread the article's statement, and then I made a personal observation on the usage of the phrase. There was literally nothing in the post about Trotter's World Of Animals, or even any comment on who wrote or released the article.

Well sorry if you think i`m been negative to Trotters,i`ve visited the place at least 4 times in the last 6 years,and actually think the place is ok on the whole,but like every where it has its bits which are not good enough.
But like most collections they have made claims that are wrong in the past,in fact if memory serves me correctly Trotters claimed to have the only Common Palm Civets on show in the UK,on a TV series with Michalea Strachan,when in fact the species was already on show at Five Sisters Zoo Park and Axe Valley Bird and Animal park before they even arrived at Trotters.Hope that last comment was negative enough for you!!
 
I have to say, I wasn't clear enough, I wasn't assuming the park itself was making the claim, but that whoever thought it up amused me, as if you'd be like, 'hon, you'll never guess who's bred the first GRANT'S zebra in the North of England!'.

Flamingoland have bred Grant's zebras for many decades, and I'm sure they weren't the first in the North to do so....

You're right, and if memory serves me correctly they bred them again just last year.
 
I find it unfair that people are blaming trotters for a mistake that the news made?! And it definitely dosn't sound like zoo giraffe is being negative towards trotters. He is however right though in saying that it is a nice collection but does have weak points(aviaries, porcupines and pig pits, way it keeps birds of prey) bu it's still good on the shoe string budget it has.

Why are you attempting to re-open an argument that is over 2 years old?

That zebra must be fully grown now!
 
This zebra 'marty' is now fully grown and has gone to longleat as a swap deal for longleat's stallion 'daan'.
