Hey Everybody,
A few questions about the Jaguar's:
i know that sofia and salavador have been together for quite abit now and have not succesfully bred.I personally feel that they should swap sofia with the other female unsure of her name i think its bwenneta to try and and breed them and what is going to happen to Pele's Enclosure if he dies/moves?

Both the females are recommended not to be bred from by the studbook holder, and are seeing out there time at Chester,as is Pele.As for what will happen to Pele`s enclosure when he dies my guess it will house another Jaguar in it!!

Does Pele ever go outside? Their are two pairs and pele and each pair has access to an outside enclosure I thought. Pele always seems to be inside.

Pele stays inside, but it is only sofia and salvador that have access to both indoor and outdoor large enclosures. Cora and Bonita [sp] have access to only the waterfall paddock, and an off-show den.

There going to put a giraffe in it.

Sorry, couldn't resist being sarcy. Given that the enclosure is called Spirit of the JAGUAR, I think it's pretty obvious what will replace Pele when he passes on.

Don`t be so sure that they wouldn`t put something that isn`t a Jaguar into what are currently Jaguar enclosures, but yes the House will as long as the name stays always House Jaguars.

ah well, they can always cull any cubs.....

I can imagine them using one side of it for something else. Two big enclosures for non-breeding Jaguars does seem a waste, as does this whole enormous but rather empty building funded by Jaguar cars.

Perhaps they could eventually turn one side into something else 'jaguar related' e.g. their prey, such as Tapirs, or amazonian monkeys?
And fill up that big space in the middle- the function room that never was....

Will just have to wait and see what happens but things are planned to change.

I know it would be years away, but it would make a lovely breading centre for Tigers. Obviously they want to breed, that amount of space and the variety of habitat would be ideal.

I didn't think that it would be in Chesters 'image and beleifs' to keep a animal like a big cat inside 24/7.

Everyone seems to forget the whole exhibit has been paid for by Jaguar they have a big say on the species kept inside the exhibit and unsurprisingly there is always going to be Jaguars!

Only until their sponsorship expires.

Absolutely.

People have been quick to scoff but the original question isn't such a daft one. This exhibit is called Spirit of the Jaguar while it is sponsored by the Jaguar company. Once that sponsorship expires there is a big big empty building ripe for reuse.

So back to the original question by Jordan; what could the exhibit be used as? My thought would involve splitting it into multi level and smaller sectioned areas - the big building must be a bugger to heat.

And does anyone know how long Jaguar signed up to sponsor for?

Although I don't know the exact date, I believe their sponsorship expires any moment now...

There could be an auction :) - highest bidder to nominate the occupants of the renamed building
  • Spirit of the Skoda - cheap & cheerful - for rhesus macaques, perhaps
  • Spirit of the Nissan - straight from Sunderland (black cats only)
  • Spirit of VW, no animals - just more crazy Golf and crazy Polo too
  • Spirit of the Ferrari - one black horse
  • Spirit of Ecstasy (Rolls Royce) - mink and beluga sturgeons
Any more?

Alan

How exactly does it become a empty building? There are still 5 animals housed in it.

I would have though the initial sponsorship deal would have been 10 years. I can find articles about the process the zoo went through but nothing quoting an exact time frame.

Who is to say Jaguar won't sign a new sponsorship deal.

Have you thought that the zoo may not be want to extend deal if Jaguar wanted to extend the sponsorship of the House.
