Do you remember/know where any of the following went to?;

Sulawesi Macaques.
Bagot Goats.
Hunting Dogs.
Sitatunga/Oryx/other antelope/fallow deer.
Prezwalski Horses
Cheetah.
Emus.
+ Any others you can remember...

would anybody be able to complete a list of animals that cricket st thomas had in the months up to its closure? we already know abotu the ones listed below but id be grateful if anyone could further add to it:

Lechwe
S.H. Oryx
Sitatunga.
Axis Deer
pzewalskis horses.
Cheetahs
Amur Leopards.
Hunting Dog pair.
Brazilian Tapir
Emus
Bagot Goats
Capybara
Meerkats
Maras
Cranes (what species??)
Sulawesi crested macaques
Spider Monkeys (?specie)
Emperor Tamarins
Yellow Mongoose
Lemurs (which species??)
parrots
pheasants

does anyone how how many they had of the larger hoofstock? and can anyone tell me what lemur species were (are) kept?

I visited cricket st thomas as a (very) small child in the early 90's in what was probably its heyday. I still have the guide book with its map! very few species then seemed to be endangered looking at what they kept back then. I have a vague memory of watching sealions and seeing elephants swim in the vally river.

Brilliant. Thanks for listing all those for us curious folk..

Quote; 'Axis Deer 27 Howton Estate'. Is that the Houghton Estate in Norfolk, do you know?

Also I noticed the Lechwe, Sitatunga and Wild Horses aren't on the list?

That is a fascinating list of disposals - thank you for putting it together . Exmoor had an interesting selection of species . I know they took a lot of stock from Penscynor when it closed - particularly Muntjac , Lemurs , Marmosets and Tamarins .

There must be quite an interesting collection on the McAlpine Estate now . I think he had links with Marwell via frienship with John Knowles and had stock from there . Has anybody visited I wonder , there was some footage from the collection a while ago on a TV programme .

A real shame about Cricket , I agree with others that its setting was one of the best for a Zoo in the UK . I went to an ABWAK meeting there many years ago and met a lot of young enthusiastic keepers , I think Doug Richardson was one of them .

Yes Houghton Estate (sorry my bad)

The other species mentioned are currently still at the park.

Cricket St Thomas -- Where did the animals go

Are the flamingos & waterfowl still there?

i drive past that big brown sign southbound on the m5 oftena and always wonder why they dont paint over it. Theres still signs for the park all over the west side of somerset at least.

Will make a detour next time I'm heading south!!!!Would be a bit of a different sign for the collection, not sure were I would display it though!!!!!

Absolutely, a nice piece of zoo-history of the future!!!
I used to have alot of old zoo signage and enclosure labels , most of which had been chucked out by the zoos concerned.

ah man i only found out 3 days ago that they went, I went there 3 years ago with my girlfriend and we loved its such a shame to see it go :(
It was the highlight of the long weekend.

Ill have to post up some photos from there at some point great memory's
