Most here in the forum probably already know that aim working on a database about the past and current status of Bird of Paradise species kept in captivity. The large amount of info provided by ara regarding the past collection of Bird of Paradise in Taronga was really helpful to me and very interesting to read.

As the Riflebirds is native to Australia I thought it must be easier to aquaire these then their relatives from New Guinea, and as they are very often very attractive to watch and when I started this project I thought it would bem easy to find info about riflebirds kept in Australian zoos, and that most larger zoos in this region kept at least some.

The only Riflebird kept in captivity in Australia that aim aware of is the Paradise Riflebird male in Taronga, anyone knows how old that one is btw?

I guess there is others as well and would love to hear about these, as well as zoos/ wildlife parks that has kept riflebirds in the past.

Thanks:D

they used to have several males a few years ago, now the single male is not young nor old, they planned to aquire a wild female for a breeding programme, that has not happened yet. he is in a mhighe mixed species walk through rainforest aviary.

hope this helped
