best indoor "jungle" in US

which is the best indoor jungle?

I've never been to the Bronx, but Omaha's Lied Jungle is just incredible, so I voted for it. However, Sedgwick County Zoo's Jungle is really great as well, maybe 3rd behind Omaha and Bronx
 
Just went back to the Bronx yesterday and did not have a great JungleWorld experience. Almost all the animals were sleeping or not active and the gibbons were nowhere to be found once again. The girl I was with who is not a zoo geek like myself was not that impressed. I'm sure she would have been much more impressed by Lied Jungle which is much more of a sure bet in terms of visitor experience.
 
but most zoo exhibits indoors or outdoors are like that during certin parts of the day, jungleworld is best around 3pm.

Well we were there about 2. And yes, I agree with what you are saying, but my point is that there is so much more in Lied Jungle that it's more likely to have some active animals. Plus, the fact that it's one big jungle in a dome makes it a much more exciting immersion experience imo compared to the Bronx which is smaller and has separate rooms.

Of course as we all know, animals rhythms are like that.
I wonder if one difference is that Leid's animals-in-a- pit approach is more of a guarantee viewing experience than letting the animals travel freely in a large planted island?
 
Lied Jungle is best, and its not very close in my opinion. The number of species plus the sheer size of the exhibit is tough to beat. Henry Doorly Zoo is easily the most under-rated zoo on these boards in my opinion. The zoo boasts the most impressive buildings I've ever seen and i've been to over 40 zoos throughout the midwest and east coast.

I completely agree with ALL of your comments!
The only rain forest buildings that can compete with Omaha's Lied Jungle are in Europe: (a) Burger's Bush in Arnhem, Netherlands; and (b) GondwanaLand in Leipzig, Germany.
 
From "Indoor jungles" that I have personally been to, I am still debating between Brookfield Zoo's Tropic World and Minnesota Zoo's indoor jungle, on my last visit to Minnesota Zoo there were Nilgiri tahrs in their indoor jungle exhibit and those are a species pretty much gone from captivity so it was super cool to see those, but the thing is that they are no longer there, and for that reason I voted for Brookfield Zoo and plus Brookfield Zoo's Tropic World seems to have more of a variety of mammals if I remember correctly and mammals are my favorite class of animals. Unfortunately I have not been to Omaha or Bronx but Jungle World and Lied Jungle seem to be super awesome so I want to go to those zoos and check them out so I can see what a lot of you guys meant when voting for those, what I miss about Jungle World is that Proboscis monkeys lived there back in the day. It would be nice to visit both so I can compare the too. Besides Jungle World, another place that you could consider an "Indoor Jungle" is the World of Birds Building at the Bronx Zoo, also the closest thing to an "Indoor jungle" near my house would be the tropical aviaries at Santa Ana Zoo, Los Angeles Zoo, and the ZSSD parks, Aviaries are not technically indoors but they have netting over them

Anyways, this is an awesome poll thread idea !!!

Which one was first built?

I can only speak for Tropic World and while I might defend it in the historical context of it's original construction it's in dire need of an update. The loss of the pygmy hippo and tapir, while for the better of the animals, is for the worst of visitors imo
