any one know about the woolly monkey at the zoo like who luca mother is and when/is he moveing to another zoo????? as he related to most of the girls in the group

Chimpanzee 'Eve'

Sad news, if I remember correctly 'Eve' was born at Bristol Zoo- parents Buttons x Elizabeth. She was (probably) the last Chimpanzee to be born at Bristol, around the time the Apes were transferred from their old quarters into the more modern(1975) Ape House and then she was later transferred to Twycross.

Very sad to hear about the death of any animal. :(

Howver its prety unfortunate the message as usual comes out with the typical Twycross mis-spelling...

Does anybody know why the long standing Zoo support/volunteer organization Twycross Zoo Association was suddenly done away with by the zoo and its volunteers barred from the premises?

The same reason as many other long standing members of staff or new managers on high wages have left would be a good starting point for an explanation!!!

One would almost think of a name (TwycrossLeaks ..., but then in reverse) or 2 (North-Korean transparency and accountability). ;)

All I will say for the moment on the TZA leaving the zoo is that the truth will come out one day and when it does people will be shocked as to how something like this can happen!!

All very sad . Has anybody got any good news concerning Twycross ? The last I can remember is the arrival of the martens .

Was just looking at some recent photos on flickr, and there appears to be a baby camel :)? Can anyone confirm this as there hasnt been any publicity about it.

There are no baby camels, just a youngish female who arrived over a year ago in with the original male

Thankyou both for replying so quickly, my mistake then :P the female is still looking very young for her age. Shes been there just over 2 years now i think arriving from Whipsnade Zoo replacing Edina when she died. Well lets hope they do breed in the near future :) ...

Yes, indeed - nice to see. I always make a point of trying to spot these, not that it's particularly easy!

I had a good look on Saturday and saw an adult in it's usual sleeping box but couldn't see the baby. Will keep trying through. This could be the new cabots tragopan! ;)

I see from their website that Twycross are planning what sounds like a fairly major overhaul of the snow leopard enclosure which seems a bit strange for an area that only opened middle of last year I notice two of the things being done are "fallen trees will be installed that will offer the snow leopards vital shade during the hotter summer months and a shrine will be installed that will add to the aesthetics of the enclosure which has been designed to replicate the Himalayan mountain side" Personally I wonder if this is an attempt to make the leopards sit in public view coupled with an attempt to appeal to the local Asian population? -- watch out for a re-launch stressing these points!!
