Not sure if anyone's been following this but the working days of Anne, the last circus elephant in the UK could be numbered. A shocking video of her being beaten with a pitchfork (link below) has caused outcry from Joe Public and the RSPCA to step in. An investigation is now underway but the circus that currently keeps her is now apparently willing to re-home her if the right "retirement" home can be found. Places under consideration include Longleat (temporarily) and an elephant sanctuary in the USA although Whipsnade have also said thay would consider taking her.

As far as I know the Great British Circus owned by Martin Lacey has three Elephants, or did have fairly recently.

The elephants that performed with the Great British Circus were hired from a german trainer and have left the UK some time ago.

News this morning is that Anne is moving to Longleat within the next week. Is this going to be the catalyst for bringing elephants back?
