On my last visit I managed to find this frog/toad in the Mountain Horned Dragon viv. I guess this is the one you were looking for Javan?

Yup, that's the Asian tree toad :) - out of interest does anybody know what species it is, all I can find is that Asian tree toad is a genus (Pedostibes).

The annoying thing is I've seen the toad itself right at the front but didn't take a picture :(

Chester appears in the BBC Quiz of the week

30 of which animal escaped from Chester Zoo in 2009?

It was chimpanzees, which were eventually found in a nearby keepers' area, where their food was usually prepared.

I love the use of 'eventually' as though they sneaked off quietly & went into the kitchen without anyone knowing!

I like to think that they snuck into the kitchen, made themselves some banana sandwiches and a cuppa and had their feet up watching crap afternoon telly when they were discovered!! :)

I can imagine it now - 30 Chimps each holding some leaves in front of them so no one can see them sneaking round the corner lol.

That's what they do every evening, they've just not been caught yet!

Apparently the Zoo have set up some special phone lines for April Fools pranks.
Zoo hotlines hope to prevent ?roar? deal from April Fool?s pranksters | Facebook

Article is:
Every year, zoos around the world receive hundreds of April Fool’s Day prank phone calls from unsuspecting callers - given a message from a work colleague asking them to return a call to the likes Mr. C. Lyon, Miss Ellie Fant, and Mr. Don Key on the zoo’s phone number – often overwhelming switchboards and infuriating staff.

To combat this, Chester Zoo has set up some special phone numbers for pranksters hoping to ‘fool’ their friends:
Miss Anna Conder; 01244 389785
Mr. Jim Pandsey; 01244 389786
Mrs. Anne Teater; 01244 389787
The zoo hopes the hotlines will provide some welcome relief to harassed reception staff who year after year are inundated with phoney calls.

Guest Services Manager, Julie Thompson said:

"The numbers each have a pre-recorded message that will let callers know they have been fooled but in a nice, friendly way.

"Last year we received around 3,000 prank calls on April 1st and it caused us no end of problems. The switchboard lit up like Blackpool illuminations and so this time around, we're very much hoping that they [the hotlines] make life a lot easier for our reception staff."

PLEASE NOTE:
The hotlines are genuine and have been set up to try and take the strain off reception/call-taking staff on April Fool's Day.
They are NOT premium numbers - just local Chester codes.
So go on; why not play a trick on your friends, family and colleagues today? Just give them one of the above numbers and then ask them to return a call to Miss Anna Conder, Mr Jim Pandsey or Mrs Anne Teater. Then, sit back and marvel at just how gullible they are!

I fel like ringng Mrs Anne Teater and ask her if she is ever going to come outside and let the public look at her.

Is the new attraction that was mentioned eariler this year?

Is it just me or does this : -

Each guest’s photographs will then be printed, packaged and made ready for sale at the exit. The Chester Zoo photo book will feature information and imagery about the animals and animal conservation. The photo product will include two unique photographs, three personalised postcards,a personalised keyring and magnet, an educational cd-rom and post-visit online access.

Seem a bit of a waste of money would it not be easy to have them stored on computer and then printed when needed rather than printing them all?

I suppose people are more likely to buy if it's just a case of taking them off the shelf (and having something there for the kids to see increases the chances of emotional blackmail!). Economically I'm sure an experienced company like this knows what works best.

Ecologically, however, printing and pulping hundreds of photos a day isn't great - but if it's making money for the zoo I suppose that at least goes some way to offsetting this.

I doubt that the fast track bit will be affected, as a picture-taking arrangement would slow it down, which would defeat the whole point of the 'fast' bit.
Let's hope so anyway

Will fast track entrance people be spared?

Spared? Spared? Are you insane? Fast track receives a special gilt frame with theirs!

Anyway worries about photos from the queen of elbow pushing to the front of pictures! I'm in shock!!  :D

<sigh> better dust off my balaklava then!!

and "Queen of Elbow" ???? I love it - but maybe you should elucidate us with more interesting details and evidence (god forfend) :D

Just a quick note from a visit today. The Golden Headed Lion Tamarin's were outside today jumping from tree to tree and doing there best to avoid being in any photos. Managed to get them so will upload a few pics shortly.
