A 'walk through' snow leopard exhibit!! Wow! Certainly more exciting than a lemur walk through!!:D

Save money on food, enrichment for the animal. Amazing idea.
No one will notice a few visitors going missing. As long as they've already visited the gift shop.

apparently it is walk-through. This http://www.tourismleafletsonline.com/pdfs/Lakeland-Wildlife-Oasis.pdf says "The world's RAREST BIG CAT in Britain's first walk through big carnivore enclosure"

How does this work?

Hmm.... the Amur Leopard (Panthera Pardus Orientalis) is statiscally the rarest big cat. (circa 200 wild & captive)

As the Snow Leopard (Uncia Uncia) cannot roar, it was never classified as a big cat ...however, this is due to an ossified hyoid, so, depending on which list you look at, it IS now a big cat (Panthera Uncia)

The photo used on that webpage is a generic, it's not the cat they've got.

Maybe a 'run through' snow leopard exhibit. For added interest nice bendy paths so just when you think you've made it it takes you back in again.

Or a locked gate for the exit, so you have to run back to the entrance and towards the snow leopard :p

actually the snow leopard has always been classified as a big cat. Historically scientific felid taxonomy has almost always divided them into Felis (small cats), Panthera (big cats) and the two outsiders, Neofelis (clouded leopard) and Acinonyx (cheetah). Uncia as a genus was erected in 1854 but was little used after that time. Snow leopards have for the last 150 years (roughly speaking) been included in Panthera by most authorities. More recently taxonomists have started on a splitting phase and now most seem to be re-using Uncia.

does anyone have any photos of the enclosure yet? It sounds interesting (and potentially quite unattractive!)

I visited the park last weekend, I will add photos of the Snow Leopard enclosure, aswell as other areas in the park.

The Tenrec is now kept in the Greater Egyptian Jerboa enclosure, the Jerboa has sadly passed on. They kept 1 male. The new Ant Colony is doing well.

The park also has two new exhibits in the Indoor Tropical Area, one holding Rainbow Crab, the other a mix of Millipedes and Madagascan Hissing Cockroach.
