Does anyone have the Members' Day programme for tomorrow? It doesn't seem to be on the website.

Probably, in other years I've obtained one at the entrance also. Might see you tomorrow then.

The weather forecast looks good for a change - so I'm planning to bring the camera for a walk. I don't usually go to many of the talks etc, but I hope I'll meet one or two ZooChatters during the day.

Im attending tomorrow. I will be the one getting harrashed by two 7 year old girls :P if spotted please come say hi

Just got back and uploading photos onto the laptop now. Will attach a few pics of the wild dog exhibit and some of the displays/signage.
Apologies that we were in somewhat of a rush to get back, will catch up with everybody properly on Tim's talk on Saturday :)

The zoo was very busy today. There is no aniimal news to report but while I was watching the courtship display of the rhinoceros hornbills, a family came to stand alongside me and I overheard their conversation, the highlight of which is following.

Young boy (8-9ish) Are these the birds that scavange in Africa?
Mum No, these are hornbills, you mean vulcans.

Its alright Rob yesterday while at the Painted Dogs I heard them being called Prairie Dogs and they even got called Lions or Tigers at one point.

Lee - I saw about 5000 'families' that matched your description above - I got looked at funny for saying Hi to all of them!

:D

Thank you karoocheetah, and thanks to Tuan/Taun too, who I also met. The weather was beautiful and the Zoo was very busy, but I found some quiet spots for photography: I have just finished reviewing my photos, far too many bad giant otter shots, but one or two bad ones too ;) I'll be posting as soon as I can.

From my experience on Thursday the public have settled on hyenas for the main name, though :D - Dingo another popular variation.

We obviously looked too ugly to have any attempt made at photographing us on the way in. They're missing a trick though, instead of some non-descript zoo background being added you should be able to choose something a bit more exciting - sitting in a hammock with Puluh's face looming up over the edge with a twinkle in his eye, standing innocently with Iblis behind you just about to leap, Jamilah just about to push you into the pool which seems to be a skill she's working on, an obscure spider descending, Miss Muffet-like onto your head. Or have I watched way too many episodes of the Apprentice.

It's always nice to get the opportunity to talk to the keepers because they are so enthusiastic about their animals.

It was pretty busy but not unpleasantly so and my friends (who boycotted the final ape visits) couldn't believe quite how many people streamed past them, the zoo does absorb a lot of people very well.

Nice to catch up with a few zoochatters, probably not surprising to have missed a few more and didn't let being blanked by one spoil our day:)

Fingers crossed for some babies!

I must admit I'm quite a fan of the Asian elephants in the photos, stood there looking as natural as anything with Acacia trees and other things typical of an African savannah  (though in fairness it was a passing glance, so could be wrong).

We had to be back quite early since AG's sister was having friends around for a house-warming, otherwise I would have spent longer chatting. A shame the dogs were almost out of sight by the time we got there but we wanted to do the East Zoo early (especially RoRA) so didn't get there until the end of the day. Of course, next week is the dogs so it was sensible to prioritise everything else yesterday :) Really looking forward to Tim's talk now.

Ah, I obviously didn't look closely enough at them. Still prefer Puluh though;)
