The Truth About Lions

Having just finished watching the two part documentary on BBC Two in the UK. It has got me thinking that given the fact that the African Lion is now listed as or very close to being listed as vulnerable. And the fact that the European Asiatic lion breeding program isnt going very well may we see more an more zoo going back to keeping African Lions in the future?

Also did anybody else watch the program, what where you thoughts on the two programs?

Did this doco mention the general classification of sub-species ie. If there are only two distinct ones or more? I always get confused with how many there are claimed to be, and if zoos do participate in pure breeding programs if there are more sub-species in Africa. Thanks.

From what I remember from the documentary and will give it a rewatch for you later to double check. I don't think they do. They mostly mentioned of four main places in Africa now were the lions reside. They also mentioned that in a lot of places in Africa inbreeding is taking place due to lack of new pride males.

Part two is still available on the BBC Iplayer BBC - BBC Two Programmes - The Truth About Lions but I think it may only be available in the UK.
