Howletts Wild Animal Park How is Quinto the Rhino?

When my son was four years old he used to to Whipsnade Zoo every week and he always went to see Quinto the Black Rhino. He used to talk to him and his ears would prick up and the keeper once allowed him to give Quinto a huge bush to eat.

Hes nine years old now and he still talks about Quinto and wonders how his big friend is getting on now at Howletts Zoo. If anybody could let me know how he is and if they have any pictures of him, I would be truly grateful.

You probably know Quinto returned first from Whipsnade to Chester Zoo (where he had come from) for some years then finally went down to Port Lympne Wild Animal Park about three years ago.

I saw him shortly after his arrival at PL and they said for an adult bull he was still pretty nervous in his new surroundings and not yet marking his territory etc. However three years on I guess things will have changed though I have no update on him. He may have fathered a calf or two there by now as well.
 
If correct that is very sad indeed...:(

I wonder if he sired any calves there before he died?
 
Originally in the paddock and house occupied by the male Indian rhino 'Hugo'.(between the Rhinos of Nepal, and Elephant areas) Initially Whipsnade had a pair each of Black and White rhinos in those two 'twin' paddocks (the other one of which now houses the Gaur.)

Later the Black Rhinos moved to the Paddock and House in the centre of the Park just South/East(:confused:?) of the Giraffe paddock. I think Gemsbok live in there now.

Kingo has not died i emailed the zoo asking about the current Black Rhinos,Kingo is fine he has fathered a calf unsure which one but he is currently mixed with Etna.
 
Sorry about that,i got the two mixed up as they were both at Chester and maybe Paignton in previous years but yes Quinto is with Etna but he didn't sire a calf sorry for that mistake:)

I don't think Kingo has ever been to Chester?

So we are still unsure if Quinto is now still alive or dead.

Quinto certainly at Chester,I`m really not sure that Kingo has been to Chester at all but wasn`t he the on e that went to Paignton!!
 
Quinto- (born at) Zurich- Chester- Whipsnade- Chester- Port Lympne.

Kingo- (born at) Howletts or Port Lympne- Paignton(on loan)- Port Lympne.

2 males came on loan from Port Lympne to Chester- KatiKati & Magadi.

I'm still waiting for some confirmation about Quinto's death.;)

Well thats answered that apart from if Quinto has died,I`m pretty certain he was still at Port Lympne when I visited last August.

Do you know if he fathered any calves (or if any females are still pregnant by him) while he was at Port Lympne?
 
RE:Cheburban When I visit ISIS it only shows me how many males and females are kept. How did you find that quinto had died? If possible could you link me to the information thnx

Only people that have an ISIS account connected with a zoo can view the details of individual animals!

Afraid I don't, I don't work at Port Lympne so don't have access to their full records, just same access as other zoo personnel via ISIS to see births, deaths etc.
