It's normal behaviour for the male to carry the young, he only hands them over to the female for suckling

I think its normal in most Callitrichid species and i know that other members of the group will participate in the up bringing of new young in a group, what are the plans with the other(older)youngster?i presume that they will keep he or her unsure of the sex with the group?

great stuff - thought the sun had got to me at first!

They are very alert for such tiny youngsters too - and the enclosure was finally free from condensation by late afternoon too :D

Visited Chester today for the first time in a few months, mostly so I could finally get to see the Painted Dogs (though I'm determined to continue referring to them as Hunting Dogs). Very, very impressed. I definatly wasnt expecting such good views of them or for them to be as active as they were. They've themed it perfectly aswell I'd say, really well done and it was nice to see the this area of the zoo with some visitors there. Some nice views of the now expanded Roan herd from the bridge aswell. Looking forward to the Hyrax arriving now.

I noticed to the Ruffed Lemurs seemed to have swapped exhibits, and that the Black-Tailed Marmosets are now housed where the Geoffreys were previously. I have no idea if these moves are recent or not but the signage was still as beforehand regarding the Marmosets anyway.

Bad day regarding some of the birds, no sign of either Macaw or Tragopan species. I did get to see the Crestless Fireback in the Elephant house though.
Was a nice visit on the whole though, best view of the Giant Otters I've had in a while at least.

They aren't that young. I saw them two weeks ago and I don't think they were new born then. Incidentally, at that time each parent was carrying one baby.

For Blackbrook, I believe - it arrived there on Thursday of last week.

That's really disappointing. Jordan, the pair have had several litters, but only a single baby has survived, which was before they moved to the current enclosure.

Could this be due to inbreeding within the European population?

Its possible, but why did they breed okay at the back of the Giraffe House, and then suddenly it all go wrong when moved to a very nice new exhibit, could be yet another case of the animals knowing best what works for them!!!
