Adelaide Zoo Adelaide Zoo News (16 March 2011)

Thanks for the link Hix. $30,000! Yep they're doing that for the love of the species and the spirit of conservation! Stuff like this turns my stomach! I can't believe people still knock zoos re captive breeding, when stuff like this is going on.
It would turn your stomach even more if your knew the names of some people that have done this!!

Oh man, this is sad. They do say that the illegal wildlife trade is the most lucrative illegal trade, after drugs and guns. At $30k a pair the motivation for smuggling these snakes is obvious, but let's not pander to these guys who would like us to believe that they are doing it to help save the species from extinction in the wild by breeding them in captivity. The mindset of these guys is no different to the antiquities collector that would buy stolen pieces and store them in their private viewing room in the basement. It's plain old selfishness.

On the zoo's Facebook page someone has left a comment saying a mandrill was born about a month ago. This means 2 Mandrills in about 7 months! This person seems to know the zoo well (even names the parents of the baby), so I am saying it is a credible source.

Also on Facebook, the zoo have stated they will be releasing a naming competition very shortly for the baby male white rhino.

It didn't mention who the father of the baby rhino was did it?

There's Satara and Ibutho. Satara is the father of the previous two calves. I wondered if Ibutho might be the father as he was born at Orana an if he was the father this calf would be a second gen.
