Just returned after a great day at Yorkshire Wildlife Park.

Since we visited this time last year, there has been so much money spent on the park and I don't just mean new animal exhibits. Theres far more benches and picnic sites and also additional toilet facilities at the top end of the park.

The Amur Leopard enclosure is in the process of construction and they should be on show this summer.

South American Viva look nearly complete and a house for the marmosets is being built. The final line up are Capybara, Mara, Agouti, Rhea, Squirrel Monkeys and Common Marmosets.

Khan, a new male camel form Longleat is currently taking up half of the Addax paddock whilst he settles in.

There are 2 wallaby joeys out of the mothers pouches at the moment.

Land of the Tigers is abolutley stunning. Both Vlad and Sayan where out. Talked to someone who had been talking to a keeper and they said that Vladimir had not been building a good bond with his keepers.

At the back of the guide book it has Rothschild Giraffe as a species that they will hopefully be aquiring next.

Also they have a new style of map which I prefer to the old one.

I though monty was the camel near the addax as per the free press last week ? The south American walkthrough does look absolutely fantastic , can't wait to walk round it and the monkeys will be a grea addition to the park let's hope they keep it going .

Monty was definitely in the old guanaco enclosure, next to the addax, on Sunday, I thought there must be yet another one!

Spoke to a ranger today and it's monty who's on his own as he has never lived with another camel so there introducing him to them over the next few months . Also does any one know when the best time to see the tigers is .

The south American walk through looks amazing. It should be open any day now - though not today for my visit! It was definitely all hands on deck today lots of people were working on it.

What's the yurt shaped enclosure next to it? Is it for the marmosets or will it be the red panda exhibit?

I think it is for the marmoset. They are positioned there on the map.

Challenge time!

The first person to take a photo from inside the South American Walkthrough gets a smiley face!:)

It's still not open but I did get some pics of the capybara who are getting to know their new home & apparently as soon as they were let out they went into the water - of course today they were sitting in their shelter.

Interesting- I believe in the wild Capybaras swim/enter the water to escape danger- maybe the unfamiliarity of their new surroundings triggered the same response?

I hope that doesn't mean they'll never go in again, they were looking very relaxed yesterday, I'll be restricted to pictures of disobedient kids falling into the pool!
