Hartmann's Mountain Zebra

I have done some research on Hartmann's Mountain Zebra's in the UK and I need a little bit of information.

Blackpool Zoo

Orginally 0.1 female named Bette arrived from Helsinki in 2001 she was born at Dvur Kralove on 11/04/93

1.0 arrived to form a breeding pair, he was named Lucas he was born at Herbesten on 21/10/01, he arrived at Blackpool Zoo on 2002 Bette and Lucas never successfully bred.

0.1 Helene arrived from Dvur Kralove in 2008 where she was born on 07/10/04.

Lucas was euthansied in 2009.

1.0 Fernando arrived in December 2009, he was born in Munich on 15/01/05
he moved to Landau in 2006 as part of a batchelor group/pair for him to mature.

Fernando mated with both the females but not successfully with Bette. Helene was found to be pregnant and on the 28/02/11 she produced a healthy male foal named Tebogo!



Linton Zoo

Linton is the newest Hartmann's Mountain Zebra holder(2007)they used to house Grevy's Zebra.

0.1 Heidi arrived at Linton 2007, she was born at Marwell on 14/08/92 she also lived at South Lakes wild animal Park for three years, Before returning to Marwell.

1.1 Hakim and Goya arrived from Overloon Zoo(netherlands)also in 2007. Hakim was born 10/05/94 at Dvur Kralove, Goya on the otherhand was born at Usti on 28/01/96.



Marwell Zoo

0.1 Pippa was born at Marwell on 14/08/85, she moved to Whipsnade for a year before moving to London. Pippa left London for Paignton in 1991, before moving back to Marwell in 1997.

0.1 Hena a young female then arrived from Dvur Kralove in 2008 she was born there on 08/08/06.

0.1 Libra arrived a year later to join her half-sister Hena. Libra was born at Dvur Kralove on 16/06/06.

1.0 Bingo the stallion arrived from Paignton in July 2010, having been born at Dvur Kralove on 24/09/94 he should know what to do considering his father and his grandfather were very famous stallions.



Paignton Zoo

0.1 Tara was born on 02/06/02 at Paignton she was the last baby Zebra to be born in over nine years before Tebogo was born in 2011 at Blackpool.

0.1 Goma arrived at Marwell orginially in 2007 she was born at Munich on 23/04/06.

1.0 Blesk a twenty-one year old stallion arrived from Sigean in early 2010, he was born at Dvur Kralove(suprise suprise!)on 20/02/94 then moving on to Prague Zoo in 1996 before moving to Sigean.


My questions;

Any new holders or plans for any Zebras to move?
Any matings at Linton, Marwell or Paignton?
Any new stallions or females to arrive?

Jordan the things you are asking, would be easy to find out from the collections themselves. If they have information that can be told to the public they would tell you. If it is not for public knowledge then no-one on here is going to post it in a public forum.

Matings have occured at Linton, however it is still a game of wait and see what happens! Zebra groups can take quite a few years to kickstart so i'm told.

1.0 Blesk a twenty-one year old stallion arrived from Sigean in early 2010, he was born at Dvur Kralove(suprise suprise!)on 20/02/94 then moving on to Prague Zoo in 1996 before moving to Sigean.

I don't know what Blesk's prospects are. He appears not to have been kept with females before, which isn't too brilliant for a 21 year old stallion expected to breed.

Similarly 'Bingo,' now at Marwell didn't manage to breed at Paignton with their females. MHale was told he is still nervous of the Marwell females.
