The aardwolves have bred, but unfortunately the 2 pups did not survive.
A North Luzon cloud rat has been born.
Red bellied, mongoose and Sclater's lemur have been mixed in the former ring tailed lemur enclosure.
A male hammerkop has arrived from Birdland to pair with a female hatched last year.
A female chevrotain has been born.
Also Iain Valentine is back at the zoo, good news

Iain is returning to concentrate on Conservation & Research which I personally think is where his strengths and enthusiasm lie
He has sounded very passionate over the past few years talking about the Conservation projects that RZSS are involved with and all the Research areas he wanted to take RZSS in to...now hopefully he can concentrate all his efforts in to this rather than the Education at the Zoo and Park...
with regards the Animal Collection, RZSS already has several experienced and knowledgeable employees who can drive this forward

I can't say I am disappointed at that bit of news, self inflicted controversy again and not even going to make any money from it. Isn't it time that the people who run this zoo entered the real world, incidentally I had occasion to inform someone about this so called show last week, she could not believe that they were trying to make money from a dissection/ autopsy, "disgusting" she said, this person incidentally was my much respected vetinary surgeon when I was at her surgery for my spaniels vaccinations, this is someone who has performed many post mortem on animals over the years as well as being present at dissections when at veterinary college.
"planned live animal postmortem" reminds me of a man who rang my ward & said "My wife's coming in for an autopsy tomorrow"

I thank they all had to be put to sleep?... not sure if thats totally correct but i think i remember hearing something about them all getting an infection or virus and they had to be PTS
In the small carnivore house, just to the north of the playpark area between the Sun bears and the Tropical Monkey House - usually seen from the windows at the side of the larger 'L' shape. They have constructed a 'den facing the window where one is usually sleeping!! The marbled polecats are in the other half again, with one of the Golden cats in the 'hidden' enclosure round the back.
Latterly, the Bush Dogs were in the enclosure between the Penguin Pool/Monkey House and the cafe. They had to be put to sleep due to health problems. See Simon's posts here:
