Twycross Zoo Twycross Zoo News 2011 #2

Cool! i will be there... gonna go around 9:30 and get a window seat... was great sitting having a relaxing drink this morning waiting for them to come out. Seemingly the BBC were meant to be here later in the day.

The mother came right out to the window and was splashing in the water.. was lovely to watch. Lets hope they do the same tomorrow :)

The zoo has named the Snow Leopard cubs as Maya (female) and Makalu (male) shouldn't there been a new Twycross news #2 thread soon as this one is getting quite long.

No, I'm really quite proud and impressed at how long it's gotten -I get a warm glow from the communal plate spinning exercise that it's seemingly become (and to which I occasionally contribute to), long may it continue.

Seriously.

Twycross' Aardwolf 'Boy' has sadly died :( - don't believe I ever saw him but aardwolf are a wonderful species. Terrible shame.

Very sad news, but not surprising - he'd been looking very much his age of late.

Very sad news this, must say when I saw him earlier this month he was looking his age,but he did seem to be enjoying been out in the warm sun.

Lets hope Twycross get some more Aardwolf's as this part of the zoo will be very boring with just Bat-eared Fox's!!

Sad news indeed. I'll miss looking in his indoor quarters with the expectation of seeing a coiled up ball of fur, getting excited on the occasions when he wasn't there and getting even more excited when he was outside rather than in his off-show area (I saw him standing up and moving about on a few lucky ocassions too:D).

As ZG says, I really hope they replace like with like (a pair would be great).

How difficult are they to get hold of?

Not as difficult as they once were, but still far from easy. Their best chance might be if they can take on animals from the closing RSCC.

I am looking for a up-to-date list of the Twycross bonobos (only the names) after the departure of Jasongo and Bokela to Leipzig...

Been to Twycross again today predominantly to see how Okanda is coming along.

Oumbie and Ozala's indoors enclosure was closed due to an introduction taking place. Assante has been moved back in with them and evidently it's going better than last time Oumbie was introduced to her. She still seems to prefer climbing up out of his way as she did with Boulas, but he doesn't seem to hassle her too much.

Okanda is looking great and crawling around with a very inquisitive nature. Ozala seems chilled out although suitably protective of her special boy.

Okanda, Oumbie, Ozala... Assante, Boulas... What species of animal are these? Presumably some are gorillas, given that one house was closed on Friday?

I'm going to assume that Okanda is a gorilla; Oumbue, Ozala, Asante and Boulas are :)
