Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre 2011

Monkey World's facebook page has reported that Peanut and Pung-yo, Golden Cheeked Gibbons, have become parents for a third time. The sex of the baby is unknown :)

A replacement female Siamang Gibbon has arrived as a non breeding mate for resident male, Sam. Her name is Sasak

Siamang gibbon introductions are said to be going very well (currently off show) and they were singing today (chimps next door not overly impressed by this). Siamang enclosure undergoing renovations.
The old orang utan nursery building has been removed as that area gets redeveloped.
The third group of woolly monkeys are on show and baby Milo seems quite small but very confident and active, he scuttles around on the fence like a gecko. Oaska, the father, male from Switzerland is a magnificent animal with a huge tail.
Gordon the male orangutan has really started to develop since the wall went up.

Can you elaborate a bit more- presumably they have divided the enclosure with a solid wall now? What's it made of? Does it go the full height etc?

The wall spilts the enclosure into 2 parts - roughly the same size. The wall is made of smooth metal sheets a good 5-6m high. if the orangs climb high they can see each other, but they can't see each other on the ground.

What exactly is happening with the old nursery building? Its just standing there empty, are there any plans to take it down or is it just being kept in case its needed for emergency housing?

It has now been moved over near the hospital building. The area where it was is being redeveloped, hopefully to include a viewing window for Gordon's group of orangutans.

What a proper diet can do.

Featured on the local T.V news last night, 'Oshine' the 'ex pet' orangutan who through a proper balanced diet has lost a huge amount of weight since her arrival and is now normally proportioned for an adult female. A couple of younger Orangutans are currently living with her, including the little Sumatran male 'Silvestre' from Spain.
