Would you know who are the adult males breeding in the Howletts collection these days?

Was;
Kijo( Kisoro x Juju)
Kifu( Kijo x Founa)
Kouillou (wildcaught).
Djanghou (Djala x Sangha)

and at Port Lympne; Djala(wildcaught)

These groups(except Djanghou's, which is newer) have been constant over many years and the only change would be if any male has died(as did Bitam, the other breeding male, a few years back) which I think I would have heard about.

Damisi

Gigit- we've heard a female has been transferred from Chessington's group to London- so I guess you can expect 'Damisi' to leave shortly....;)

Don't leave us in suspense too long!! If in the UK then he must be either returning to Port Lympne or heading to Chester.

Port Lympne might be taking him back ... (as I suggested or hope for some time)? He only needs to be out in the paddock with the cows for the summer to make it count. ;)

At Port Lympne he could mate with Vuyu, Etna, Jaga, Salome, Nakuru in totally unrelated pairings. He could also be mated with others, allthough with these he shares some parentage: Arusha (he shares her sire), Ruaha (he shares her dam) and Nyasa (allthough Arusha is the dam, but sire Jos is unrelated). That makes for at least 8 cows to mate.

Rukwa is now probably post-reproductive.

In the long term I really hope for an influx of 2-3 unrelated males from the SSP michaeli black rhino programme.

Now, I am really going to send a big letter to the studbookkeeper for further readings. Next month I am due to attend a meeting on rhinos .... (also the captive ones). Keep you all posted offcourse!

rhino

Pertinax and jelle - well done, you are right! Kingo is going to Port Lympne on May 8.

It wasn't hard- PL own him and they need him at present....

Please let me know if you hear any fresh news about 'Damisi'...

Thankyou. I'm hoping to hear he'll depart very soon now but sudden changes of plan don't surprise me anymore...;)

Celebrations and jubilations ..... I want the world to know I am happy as can be (I am not a C Richard adept, just I love the Young Ones) :p

At last, the black rhino EEP is moving again .. to somewhere beautiful! I will post my news clippings shortly in the European rhino thread.

Paignton Zoo Lions and Tigers

How are things with the Asiatic Lions at Paignton. They received a new breeding male about 2 years ago from Twycross Zoo, are the pair together and mating yet, or are they both not mature enough for breeding?

Also, are the tiger family all together yet or is the male still seperate from the mum and cub?

Lions and tigers

The lions have been together since the male's arrival and look relaxed together. I was talking to another zoo visitor last week who told me he'd seen the male looking interested in the lioness but she hadn't responded. Previously, she'd shown interest in him and he hadn't responded!
The male tiger is still separated from mum and daughter.

Lions- Am I correct in thinking one of them(the female?) was born at Paignton in the last litter of the previous pair? Was the male born at Twycross?

Oh Boy am looking forwards to that :D

Yes - I can't remember her name at the moment. He's Mwambe - he had to be kept by himself at Twycross for a while before coming here.

Do you know where the original male 'Midas' was sent to after they lost his mate? I believe it was somewhere abroad.
