Chester has the highest visitor numbers of any UK zoo/wildlife park, and this they have managed without hippos, gorillas, polar bears, koalas or pandas. So in short, I think Chester has enough 'abc' species for it to get by, and the absence of these few, no zoo has the complete set of ABC's so I don't see why it is so important for Chester to 'fill the gaps')
A bit off topic - I know I've said this before, but I really hate this idea of labelling animals as ABCs. Just because you can see them in a lot of places doesn't take away their interest or importance. Most people don't visit quite the number of zoos that we do, just their local one or two. So the tiger is THEIR tiger, the hippo is THEIR hippo and the gorilla is THEIR gorilla. This engagement brings in revenue and creates the animal lovers of the future. We should respect the 'ABC's .
