Looking for Interviewees

I'm looking to put together a couple of features for my Zoo Tails blog and I would zoo to interview anyone who has experience in the zoo industry. I would really love to interview someone who has been involved in exhibit design and development. Can anybody help me out or point me in the right direction? Thanks!

I've not done exhibit design or construction, but I've been on both sides of the fence (as in visiting public and volunteer) more than once. If you feel this would make for good interview material, you need only ask.

Best of luck.

That would be great! We could do something as easy as a Q/A interview where I would email a few questions and you could take your time in responding and we would just go back and forth until we had enough for a full feature.

I have a suggestion! :D

How about contacting the owner of Tayto park, Ireland, Raymond Coyle. I´ve seen him only once, but he seems to be pretty extrovert and he might agree with an interview. It would be interesting to interview someone, who doesn´t have any special experience, just a sh..load of money and decided to build a zoo. He is the owner of Largo Foods and it should be easy to contact him.

I can't speak for anyone here, but we do have a very deep talent pool here in the ZooChat community. Off the top of my head the following folks would be very interesting interviews:

*Prominent zoo critics snowleopard and geomorph who have gone around the U.S. reviewing zoos and helping define the field (albeit a small be very interesting one).
*Author Alan Nyhuis, author of "America's Best Zoos", an influential zoo travel guide.
*Author Tim Brown, author of European zoo travel guides
*Horticulturist Zooplantman, one of the zoo world's prominent landscape designers.
*Young zoo reviewers and enthusiasts here like Cat-man (very knowledgeable about UK zoo history), KCZooFan (award winning zoo photographer), and gorgeousingray (who runs a professional quality zoo elephant blog at age 15).
*Zoo docent, cat conservation expert, and fantastic photographer Arizona Docent
*Expert zoo photographer and former koala keeper Blackduiker
*Animal enrichment volunteer and zoo photographer mstickmanp
*Toddy from Denmark who has done lemur research in the wild and has provided photographic tours of many European zoos here. Maguari has also produced many excellent zoo photo tours from across Europe in the Gallery.

There are many other interesting folks here too.

KCZooFan (award winning zoo photographer)

Any of the people mentioned here I would love to read interviews from. Not sure if I'd make an interesting interview, but thank for mentioning me :D I also think DavidBrown himself should be mentioned, as he has done work with giraffes in the wild.

*Expert zoo photographer and former koala keeper Blackduiker

Was also unaware he used to be a koala keeper (Los Angeles Zoo?), very cool position.

Great job on the interviews. The Zoo Diorama is fantastic and the interview with KCZooFan is very interesting as well.

Thanks for the kind remarks. Great news, I'm going to be interviewing John Desantis, who has done rockwork for a number of amusement parks, zoos, hotels, aquariums, etc. Does anyone have any questions they would like me to ask John about designing or constructing zoo exhibits?

Here's a small sampling on the numerous exhibits he has worked on:

Opryland Hotel, Nashville - Delta Atrium
Universal studios, Orlando. - Adventure Island
Disney, Anaheim - California Adventure
Sea World. San Diego - Wild Arctic Exhibit
Sea World, Orlando - Wild Arctic
Disney, Orlando - Animal Kingdom
Audubon Park Zoo, New Orleans - Asian Domain
Environmental Center, New Jersey - Wildlife Exhibit
Bergen County Zoo, New Jersey - Alligator Exhibit
Arizona Desert Museum, Tucson - Geology Exhibit

Well, I know you just did an interview with a photographer, but I would consider myself an amateur zoo photographer too. I've placed in the Buffalo Zoo photo contest twice. I was also fortunate to work in the education department of a zoo for a summer. I'd be happy to do an interview for you, but if you want more of a variety of people, I understand.

I posted my latest interview feature and it might possibly be the best one yet! I've been looking to talk to someone involved in zoo design for a long time and I finally found somone. Read my interview with a zoo designer where we talk about differences between theme park and zoo design, how you create an exhibit based on all the design constraints, and more.
