Not including bad exhibits at zoos, but nothing makes me more frustrated with a zoo than incorrect, or non-specific labeling. Then it shows the guests that they are learning something that isn't entirely true. Almost every zoo that has a black or white rhino, does this. I have a list of incorrect signage at the Cincinnati Zoo, with a little help from someone else. The first word will be the Sign and the second will be the actual species.

seeing as you decided to send me a pm calling me a jerk etc (I won't repeat the whole pm), I will just explain my post above to you Moebelle. None of the signs you listed above are "incorrect", they are simply not noted down to subspecific level. Several of them are not incorrect at all, they are simply not the common name you would have used (eg "Giant fruit bat to Indian flying fox", "Emerald beetle to Emerald ash borer", "Mueller's Gibbon to Muell'er Bornean or grey gibbon", "Slender-tailed cloud rat to Northern Luzon giant cloud rat").

This is a forum, expect people to disagree with you and have their own opinions (people disagree with my opinions all the time! :D). My opinion is that your post was wierd. And my secondary opinion is that even I'm not pedantic enough to complain that a zoo doesn't put "Eastern Siberian Lynx" on their sign instead of "Siberian Lynx"! And I'm pretty pedantic! If you go sending pms to everybody who thinks any particular post of yours is wierd you'll be kept awfully busy!

I know 3 other members already that agree with this. Yeah, the point was to show that zoo signs need to be more specific. Everything up there is incorrect. I don't a place besides Cincinnati that calls Indian flying foxes giant fruit bats. I PM'd you because you said it so rudely. And since you don't believe in PM'ing, then I'll just say it now. I have reported you, and will continue to do so. This forum is to discuss the problem with zoos around the world doing this.

you don't actually take on board anything anyone says do you?

Not when it's that rude. Especially when have YOU implied that my chronology list was ''weird''. You can try to PM me it, and say it, that's what a nice person would have done.

like the pm you sent to me?

EDIT: if, as you say, you have already reported me for being a jerk, perhaps you could stop sending me the pms calling me names then?

second reply because you edited your post. Actually I complimented you on that chronology thread, on the nice work you'd done. I have no way of knowing how accurate the content was, but you obviously put a lot of effort into it. I simply said I didn't think a baby giraffe breaking its leg was particularly historically significant, and asked what you meant by the zoo being the first to breed crimson rosellas in captivity (which you didn't answer). As I said, you don't actually seem to take anything on board.

Actually I did answer it. Do you not know how to use private messaging? When did I call you a name this time?

My answer:

They aren't random, read the last sentence of the first paragraph. To add on to that, other bold lines that do not follow that statement are important facts about the zoo. Baby Zuri breaking her leg and dying from it was a giant impact on the zoo, more emotionally, especially almost everyone in Cincinnati.

I think it's time to close this, but the zoos are just making it easier, it's like calling an apple an apple, rather than a Alkmene Apple.
