Thai zoo with marbled cats?

I haven't been, but it is commonly known as Korat Zoo which may be a name you're more familiar with. It is one of the few Thai zoos in the SEAZA organisation.

I suspect Peter Dickinson will have been there.

Saigon Zoo also had marbled cat when I visied a couple of years ago, really beautiful. I watched them being fed live rabbits, much to the delight of a group of Vietnamese school children. How cultures differ!

I am really hoping these are still there when I'm in Saigon/HCMC on the 16th March (the cats, not the children!). They're still listed on the website so fingers crossed, but of course even if they are still there 'having Marbled Cats' and 'having Marbled Cats on show' are two different things!

Don't get your hopes up. I'm sorry but the last I heard there were none there. I did see one at Medan, its possible there were more I didn't stay long as it was truely horrendous.
These collections have a high turnover so you may have some luck (if the cats don't) and see one.
I'd be interested to know more about your trip. Are you going to many National Parks?

Pretty much as I feared! As you say, will have to take my chances!

I've got 6 days at Cuc Phuong NP, plus about a day-and-a-half in Hanoi and a day in Saigon. Not a long trip but should be interesting - and hopefully should be a good wildlife trip with a nice sprinkling of zoo!

It was originally going to be Bach Ma NP, which is rather less-developed, but they're building a new road and the only accommodation in the park is closed while this happens, so the trip got relocated to Cuc Phuong - which has the nice bonus of the Primate Conservation and Rescue Centre, which should more-or-less guarantee me some weird langurs if nothing else!

Sounds great. You'll certainly get to see some great species at the primate centre are you visiting the CPCP centre too? (it's possible they could have a marbled cat passing through!). I hope you have a fantastic time!

Thanks! :)

Hoping to get to the CPCP centre but unlike the primate and turtle centres, I understand it isn't generally open to the public, so it may take a little work. Watch this space!

At the very least, should have four 'zoos' (i.e. captive animal collections) - Primate Centre, Turtle Centre, Hanoi Zoo, Saigon Zoo - in the trip. Plus whatever chooses to show itself in the forest. :)

At Cuc Phuong the primate centre has all three species of douc langur and Delacours langur amongst others. The turtle centre down the road has around 900 turtles many of which are endangered. Both of these do an organised tour. The small carnivore and pangolin project next door to the primate centre however is private but they may let you see the pangolins and Owstons civets one evening if you ask them very nicely.
The National Park itself is amazing primary forest, but if your a birder get up very very early.
Hanoi zoo on the other hand is awful, don,t bother.

Thanks for the hints! (I've every intention of some early starts!)

However bad it is, I'd still like to see Hanoi Zoo - I always like to be able to see places for myself (even if I find myself never wanting to go back again!).
