This was mentioned in passing on another thread, in reference to their planned 'African Safari'

Does anyone have any details, such as the acreage (I believe it will be behind the newly built hotel) species planned for or a time frame for when it will all open to the public. Of course, I know they are planning a new Gorilla exhibit too and am more interested in that :D but I guess this will go 'hand in hand' with the other developments....

I also wondered if the existing Lions/Tigers/sealions area will remain. Or will all animals be focused into one area then?

Has anyone visited Chessington in recent months(this summer)?

I'm trying to find out if any change/extension has been made to the Gorilla enclosure, following bad publicity in the spring about the 'overcrowded' conditions of their group. The same report critisised the Lion and Tiger enclosures as being in 'a poor state of repair'....

Also, does anyone know if plans for the new 'Zoo Safari' area on undeveloped land at Chessington is definately still going ahead, and when?

Was suppose to visit last weekend but most of the zoo area was closed due to Foot and Mouth so as a result didn`t get their.

Chessington have announced the birth of 1.1 Sumatran tiger, they were born in February.

Thats good news, on another note, is the planned Gorilla exhibit still in the planning stages?

See the top of this page where I asked for information some months ago but nobody on this forum has been able to supply any. The Hotel is already built but the timeframe for the new zoo development still seems unclear.

As far as i know,

1. The gorrilas will be moved to a 5 Acre enclosure next to Creature Features
2. A african safari and education centre will be built on the old trail of kings area

this is due to happen 2009/2010

I read this on wikipedia but has since been deleted :(

ISIS only shows Chessington as having only 1 asiatic lion, the male. Has the new female been moved to another collection or died?

Do you know any more about the planned new animal areas at Chessington- is it all going ahead within a couple of years or what? Considering its supposed to be imminent, they are keeping rather quiet about it...

Sadly, No!, they are very quiet on thier new plans, recently chessington has been losing money (very quickly) apparently they earn only a quater of what alton towers does :(

so its very hard for them to build this new enclosure, will let you know when i know anything more..also check on wikipedia for more information

very interesting- in that case they may put these new animal developments on hold either short or even longer term. If there is one thing that governs what happens at Chessington, it is MONEY MONEY MONEY!!!;)
