Hmm, thanks for the imput steve, i do think silly yes and you are most likely right but on this topic, really i do think that Joe's weight is in question.

I think ( tell me if i'm wrong) that Animal lover agrees with me a bit, Say that Animal lover is correct ( not doubting you) Bindu is larger than Joe. Bindu is 3.15 meters and 5500kgs.

But i'm not trying to get on your bad side steve, i'm just trying to help make a list of the biggest bulls.

But more comfortable than in many European zoos!

And isn't it wonderful to think that a mighty Asian tusker is so relaxed in his environment that he will even lay right down and sleep - even with the public present? Those of us who know a little bit about elephants know that he wouldn't do that if he was stressed or ill at ease.

I have to agree with UntBwe here. I am all for banning elephants in circusses. I know that not all the elephant enclosures in the european zoo are up to date yet, but in a circus they can't display any natural behaviour at all

Looking at the photos of these elephants they look in great condition and that would point to the large amount of care given to them by there keepers, Jo looks amazing

Circus Krone take extremly good care for their animals compared to many circuses and zoos perhaps. Their hippo even has a 20,000 gallon pool in her carriage.

@ Steve Robinson: I agree, Circus Krone must take great care for their elephants and at least they get enrichment, unlike many zoos around the world. He very well could be seven tonnes. But i doubt he is 3.50 meters high.

For Mark: I still have doubts about Joe's real weight but i think that he definately deserves a spot on our Top ten list.

@ UntBwe: I know i'm a kid (thanks steve) and i lack knowledge and experince but i think we could "estimate" Hussein's height. Compared to females at the zoo he doesn't seem to tower them by a lot, but Hamburg has quite large cows and on certain parts of the enclosure the ground "hills" a bit.

@ Animal Lover: Do think he "deserves" to be on the top ten?

You are not on my "bad" side young Mr dragon(ele)nerd but I do realise that you are 13 years old and my quarrel with you is that you automatically assumed that circus folk would lie about their elephant. My post was to try to encourage your rapidly maturing brain to think things through before committing assumptions to print. There are two sides to every position so things may not always be what they appear to be at 13 years of age. And yes, I'm speaking from long and sometimes painful experience!

The "biggest bull" is a different topic and will be a matter of much great discussion yet!

Amersfoort has a sign with the heights of all elephants. Are there more zoos with such? (this is an old photo, 2007 is also filled in. Sammy is now 2.95 meters)

Wish all zoos had a measurement chart like that, sammy might grow up to be larger than his father Siam. He was a magnificent sight.

Would any one know the size of Ramon? Former Rotterdam bull, born in Hannover.

Well, Steve, actually it was me who questioned what the Circus Krone says about Joe`s weight and height. And I do so because I have seen him (and the other elephants) in person, and I have seen quite a lot of bull elephants in european zoos. If the Krone people say Colonel Joe is 3,50 m high they do lie - or they don`t know how to measure an elephant. And these elephants are not in "great shape", because if you look properly on the pics posted by Animal, you can clearly see that some of them have really bad foot problems. And Joe´s front legs are both badly damaged, one leg is completely stiff and the other one is nearly stiff.

And yes, i agree. I was in front of Bindu on the same hight, like i was in frot of Joe. Bindu ist far bigger, but not so "fat".

For Circus-Eles Joe and his Heard are in good shape, but they are all winter in a bulidig at chains. In summer they have paddocks and so.

Note: When I was at Krone in 2006 (look at the pics) Joe was free of his chains and there was NO power on the fence... A bit scary.

He is at normal size, but looks bigger, cause the enclosure is higher than the public area. He is also always at ditch, waiting for food of the visitors. So he is nearer than all other Zoo-Bulls.

Sorry Yassa, I can't see that at all. Joe's front nails have been that distinctive for decades. As a matter of fact his nails are one way that elephant people use to positively identify him in uncaptioned photos - they are so distinctive.

Do you think should we work on one as well as the list MARK? I think it will be great, i don't have any photos of my own of USA and europe bulls so i won't be much help.
