The only zoo in Australia to see.....

Grey parrots aren't too hard to find in Australia. I've seen quite a few in some larger pet shops in Adelaide, not just for sale but for interaction with the customers. Also, referring to lyrebirds comment earlier, I am very pleased to hear that there are more Australian pratincoles on display in the country, thanks for that information :).

Which makes it all the more intriguing as to why our zoos don't display the species more often. They tick lots of boxes for us.

I dont remember seeing them Steve, are they new for you or behind the scenes?

On display, between the Tiger enclosure and the Luzon Bleeding-heart Aviary.

We've had them for a couple of years now. Last year was their first attempt at breeding - two clutches each of 4 clear eggs. This year we are hoping that they have got their act together!

Well thats embarrassing, I think it calls for another visit to remedy my ignorance. Finger crossed for some Babies.

Perth Zoo - Numbats

I think Cairns Zoo might be the only zoo with Japanese Snow Monkeys

The wildlife park at Port Douglas might be the only place with Lumholtz's Tree Kangaroo and Northern Nail Tail Wallabies

Japanese macaques are also at Launceston (and I think maybe somewhere else?)

From memory, Gorge Wildlife Park in SA has some as does Tasmania Zoo. The animals at Mareeba [Cairns Wildlife Safari Reserve, not Cairns Zoo] came from Perth Zoo I think.

and seeing no-one has mentioned them yet, long-beaked echidnas at Taronga. The best of all.

I was just about to say the African elephant at Toronga Western plains, do they just have the one now?

Also I'm pretty sure Gorge Wildlife Park has the only "panther" in Australia. Does anyone know anything about this one? (sex, jaguar or leopard, name, etc.?)

Cleland also has numbats.
Gorge has Japanese Macaques (as Steve pointed out)
Lumholtz's at Fleay's
Northern Nailtails at Billabong in Townsville.

Fleay's has Julia Creek Dunnart and Proserpine Rock Wallabies which I don't think are held anywhere else. They also have Bridled Nailtails (which maybe held elsewhere).

Western Plains used to be the only place with Mala.

:p

Hix

And does Monarto have black rhinos as well? I seem to remember them having a few.
