I visited Colchester Zoo for the first time last week and I just wanted to say "thank you" to zoogiraffe who provided a list of animals unique to Colchester. I managed to see the feathertail gliders in action, which was really interesting – had never heard of them before and certainly wouldn't have looked through the curtain in the farm building without your guidance! I also went on the road train and spotted the black backed jackal... and we found the giant plated lizard, very impressive. We were amazed by the binturong – I had no idea what the animal was when I first saw it bounding about on the branches – it's fantastic that there are animals in UK zoos that I've never even heard of!
Altogether a very enjoyable visit – I'll have to go again as we missed quite a lot – almost all the animals appeared to be in very good condition, and after my "local" London Zoo it was certainly a change in environment – so hilly!!!
