So that would ensure that I get another turn!? :D

If so, someone can go before me, as I have to take tests at school tomorrow, and won't be home 'til around 3 P.M. EST. If anyone wants to go, feel free, but I WANT MY TURN AFTERWARDS!!!

May I?............

only if someone else doesn't post all the correct answers in one go! The round isn't over till nanoboy says it is!

I find the first 2 birds to be extremely fascinating, and I suspect that many forumites may be a bit confused like the early explorers. ;)

I may need some confirmation from you later for the 3rd bird, and for the bird in #6.

do you not know the third bird or just want to confirm? I was thinking it was a very clever shot you got for those four individuals all together like that!

Birds of prey aren't really my thing, but from the crop I would have gone with gyrfalcon over peregrine. But we all know from this game how cropped photos can be deceptive!! Was it taken in Hong Kong?

Yeah, I just wanted to confirm the 3rd one. I double-checked my bird book, and I think that the first two and second two birds have a similar...... similarity.

#6 was indeed taken at Ocean Park Hong Kong.

based on what I can see in the cropped picture I would say you are correct

in that case I might suggest lanner falcon rather than peregrine, if you want to google image that and check against your photo

No1 is a Pair of Barrabands (superb parrot, as someone has already mentioned) and a pair of Eclectus i think.

Well done! In the first photo, taken at Melbourne Zoo Great Flight Aviary, there are 4 birds, from left to right:

1. Male eclectus parrot (green)
2. Female eclectus parrot (red) [look up sexual dimorphism in the dictionary, and there should be a photo of these birds :D Early explorers thought they were 2 distinct species.]

3. Female superb parrot
4. Male superb parrot

There you go folks! 4 birds, but only 2 species. ;) And THAT is why I needed you to be as specific as possible.

The 6th photo, I believe, is a peregrine falcon - but I am open to corrections.

I guess that AnaheimZoo got the most correct in the shortest period, so it's his turn. I'll let him and Moebelle work out their order of posting. :D

No.2 Barn owl chick
No.3 Reticulated python
No.4 white naped raven
no.5 lesser adjutant stork

Currently, I'm not using the computer that has all of my pictures, plus I'm not home, anyway. Does that mean my turn is denied? Or can you save a turn in your "vault" and pull it out when you get the chance? :D

[EDIT]
Oh, and nanoboy, I can see why there was confusion as to what species of falcon that was... :p

I would just go too.

Not sure how to do this but not all of your's were right.

First off, the member has to get all of the answers right to post a picture next (or if you're like nanoboy, you sneak your pics in when there's a break in the action :D).

Just tell him how many he got right (or just say a few), but don't reveal the answers. If one of the guesses is close, tell him/her, but don't give any hints. Wait for a few more guesses come in. You don't have to reply to them all. It's okay to give hints afterwards if you'd like, but if a week's gone by and no one's gotten them all right, then whoever got the most right will go next.

Take a look at the other entries earlier in the thread. This should give you a better idea of how the game's played and how it's done. :)

I guess it'd be a little unfair if I took part in this particular competition :p I'll just watch and see how long it takes before someone gets them all right ;)

I'm still thinking lanner falcon, but I'm happy for anyone better acquainted with them to say otherwise

You may be right: Emperors of the Sky | Ocean Park Hong Kong

"Emperors of the Sky
Over ten extraordinary birds of prey including steppes eagles, Lanner falcons, striated caracaras and turkey vultures, along with 70 other species of birds, will appear in 'The Emperors of the Sky' presentation at the Amazing Bird Theatre. This compelling educational session will give you a deeper understanding of why it is important to protect their wildlife habitat."
