A few quick bits from visiting today,work on the new Iberian Wolf exhibit has started and is proceding well,it will open a part of the zoo never before used to house any animals,also it will whe finished mean's that the Hartmann's Mountain Zebra aren't hidden away on a dead end footpath.Work is more or less complete on converting what many years ago used to be the Red Kangaroo enclosure into the new enclosure for Giant Anteaters,and the zoo's group of Red-fronted Lemur are being housed temporily in the Black Howler House along with the Black Howlers

Also a recent arrival at the collection is a very nice pair of Cape Shovellers which is a species that isn't very common at all in the UK

There wont be any viewing for the wolves fro the path by the zebra
 
The Blackpool lion pride is now down to three, Jasmine one of the females was put to sleep on Sunday due to malignant tumour in her foot which she did not respond to treatment.
 
I believe that the male Giant anteater should be arriving next week all being well. I have a little bit of information on him.

He is called Eskil and was born on the 23rd December 2010 at Parken Zoo to Benita and Rozinski. He is believed to be the first and (AFAIK) only Giant anteater to be born in Sweden.

Andina the female has been released into the outdoor paddock, and is settling in very well. I have a Spanish friend who lives in Madrid and has seen Andina grow up so I'm sure he'll be very happy when he receives the news.
 
'Eskil' the Giant anteater was due to arrive from Parken on Tuesday/Wednesday. I wil be at the Zoo tomorrow for a look round for a few hours (going on the football match at one) so will update everybody on anything that is new.

Also the Wolves are due to arrive in June.
 
Notes from today's visit;

- male anteater is in the on-show indoor enclosure, female was outdoors today. They were interacting today and things looked very well.

- two titi's have been born in two separate groups, they are both in the nocturnal house both being carried around by there fathers.

- wolf exhibit looks brilliant, the house looked to be completed the outdoor area looks like it will be near completion soon.

- two pygmy goats were born on the 7th and 9th April. Two other goats have moved to there original area in the old farm.

- two meerkats have been separated from the main group and are now mixed with the two Aardvarks.

Things are looking well in the zoo. I'm going tomorrow too.

This request may be too late but a couple more shots for the Gallery of the Wolf enclosure to show what it's looking like now, particularly the outdoor area, would be good.

Don't worry it was late but I always get a few photos of the Wolf enclosure, the house looks ready. It looks as though the viewing will be looking down on the Wolves.

Some notes from today include-

- Only one Aardvark on-show not a clue why the other one wasn't.

- Njema the Gorilla is not pregnant (yet) the keeper said she isn't yet but were still hopeful.

- A third Pygmy goat was born last night/early morning. The other two are looking well.

- The young male Bongo has been kept separate from the group, I think the plan is to move him on as he was born at Blackpool to one of the females.
 
Blackpool now only have one Aardvark. A few weeks ago the male 'Arnie' born 2006 at Arnhem died after a heart problem, the actual problem is yet to be confirmed. It'll be a shame, although they have began searching for a new male.

- Both Giant Anteaters have now mixed and are getting on well. They were both interacting well.

- The male Bongo has (I think) been moved on as he was separated last time I visited and he was no where to be seen.

- The wolf viewing hut and windows have been put up and are now complete it looks brilliant.

- Lions, Potoroos, Cape shoveller and Zebras were all mating today.
 
Update from the zoo;-

- Helene and Fernando the Hartmann's mountain Zebras were mixed the other week/month whilst Tobogo/Tebogo (sp?) was with Bette.

- The male Bongo was moved to Knowsley the other week to join there bachelor herd.

- Ivy the female Pileated gibbon has been put on-show again she looks better now. :)

- Ferraa the Shetland Pony arrived this week from the Hambelton donkey stud with her son Floyd [Note: this isn't a permanent move she and him are due to leave within the next week].

- Eurasian cranes have moved into the Sitatunga exhibit, and the Sitatunga have a week old calf this is the first from the ex Chester male.

- Two Vicuna have moved to the Anteater exhibit with the other staying at the Gazelle exhibit. Another female Capybara has been moved there too to join the current pair.
 
The Iberian Wolves are due to arrive from Woburn today. They will be off show initially
