Just don't forget that water moats can be dangerous-a number of Gorillas have drowned in them in the past. Its okay if the moats are properly designed without a sudden steep drop on the animals' side- I imagine they are better designed nowadays.l

no, there are about eight behind the rockwork and then two in a metal building to the left of the first viewing area

1. are they extending the monorail cos it looked like that when i visited

2. what is the metal building next to the hotel?

3. the council said they would remove the zoo lisence to keep gorillas after 2009 if a new enclosure wasnt built, does this mean the zoo is risking losing its lisence?

The ones to the left of the first viewing area are certainly a recent addition. Gorilla lady says 'Damisi' is being kept in one at present.

As I understood it, it was if some changes weren't made to the existing enclosure, and they evidently have been.
 
Are the Sumatran tigers together as a family group at Chessington, or are they rotated outside on seperate days, with the cubs being so young?

no they are not extending the monorail

the building next hotel as if you were on the monorial to the right? dark green? that would be just staff canteen/offices.

we have made the adjustments needed

i dont understand, over the otter enclosure there were metal pipes and it looked like a planned extension for the monorail, as they went right up to the track

could you explain what these pipes are for?
 
How is Damisi setting in ?
How is Mujuku Father ?
Is it true Buu is the only female left of the pill ?
Did Kaja give birth to any ther youngsters ?

Damisi is doing fine, hes settled in with the five big girls, we tried him with the two kids but he wasn't happy with them so they are living with kumba and bafia at the moment.
kumba is very happy with the two kids in with him, its given him some new enrichment!
buu is the only one not on the pill, and Damisi has been seen mating with her on a number of occasions.
Kaja only gave birth to Asili.

the pipes were for the new cables for the monorail. it is not being extended. x
 
That is really positive news about the two young animals staying with Kumba, it just goes to show that there is a great benefit to building up a group even for retired animals......if only this would happen at Twycross....

It is a nice bit of flexible management- the babies stay safe from the new male while their own father and their 'auntie' benefit from their presence too.
 
Just watched Zoo babies on Channel 5. It had Damisi introduction on it, and well he's impressive for only 11 years old!
 
Lets hope he has a long and succesful life there.

So do chessington only have 5 breeding females at this moment? (I know 4 are on the pill at the moment which makes sense with not much room for growth until new enclosure)
 
sorry to move away from the gorilla debate but does anyone know if either of the adult sumatran tigers were born at Dudley zoo??
