Dudley Zoological Gardens Penguin bay

If its as good as the recent re-developments at Dudley, then it will go to show yet again what can be done for very little money!

Yes Dudley have a knack of making good improvements with little money.
Just a few points, I really hope it looks as good and green as in the artists impression and I hope idiots dont throw rubbish into the water from the viewing bridges, and finally I hope the next improvement will be for the orangs, after that's done people will have little reason to complain about Dudley (unless they belongs to CAPS).

Have they made any improvements to the chimps outdoor area? It's a fantastic space, but I thought it needed a lot more climbing frames and ropes

Went on a last minute trip to Dudley today, which handily coincided with the redesigned penguin Exhibit being open.

Overall its an improvement, but the Walk through element seems abit weak, seeing as the penguins are either side of you, with mesh/glass between you.

Also, there are now two elements to the enclosure, the "old" pond area is virtually identical, just with a closer view point for visitors.

The other is a new area of sand behind where you would view the penguins through. These are weirdly connected by 2 tunnels underneath the visitor walkway, which seems a new concept.

Attachment 1 shows the view from the extended viewing platform.
Attachment 2 shows the upper beach section. (The stones behind the fake orange penguin show the tunnel which connect the pool and beach sections)
Attachment 3 shows the view from the new low viewing platform.

Has anyone noticed that it looks like you can no longer walk to the Primates Houses from the Penguin Bay Enclosure, also cutting off the Old entrance to the Tecton Buildings below.

Is there any purpose to the coloured penguin statues? they look pretty ridiculous...

I find it strange when enclosures advertised as 'walk-through', are in fact not that at all, apart from in the most basic sense that the enclosure extends to both sides of the path. In the case of Lakeland Wildlife Oasis, I don't think this was quite as misleading, given that nobody would expect to be able to interact with snow leopards (although I had expected some kind of raised walkway into a large netted enclosure at least giving the impression you were entering the cats' habitat), however given there are some actual walk-through penguin exhibits in existence, not least Living Coasts, I think it is misleading for Dudley to promote this (otherwise excellent) extension to its penguin exhibit as anything other than that.
