I notice he says 'one of' - so are both still there? Here's hoping it's the one that's staying!!
Natalia is supposed to of departed for Lisbon in the last couple of weeks
Male White Lipped Deer has arrived from Berlin via the Scottish Deer Centre. He's met the females for the first time this week

This news raises a couple of other questions;
1. According to HWP 2011 website five females were transferred from Edinburgh Zoo. Now only three are mentioned. What happened to the other two?
2. Have the other male(s) stayed at Edinburgh Zoo, or been transferred to the Scottish Deer Centre to join the ones they had already?
3. How many WL Deer are there now in Scotland and where? (please complete);

Apologies for the earlier confusion... Natalia has left this week. She's having to go by road and sea because no Airline flying from the UK to Portugal uses a plane that's big enough to fit her and her crate inside

Just back from a really great talk with the animal curator of the HWP. Some things that he mentioned
There is a two year old male muskox coming on monday night to the park
The european wolf female is heavily pregnant and ready to pop
Some future animals include are the wolverines, amur leopards<that we already knew> and in the long term probably asiatic black bears
The tigers have had a successful mating and they hope that she is pregnant... if so the cubs will be on show during september
Still finding it hard to find a female polar bear.
They initally had 5 female white lipped deer.... two female went to the Scottish deer center where they have a group of three males. One of those three males moved to join the 3 remaining girls at the HWP
Most of the birds are sitting on eggs.. including the capercallie, the snowy owl and the great grey owl.
The elk has just had a new calf.
They are trying to source a new male przewalski's horse male, the one chosen has had some problems with a positive test... hopefully it will be false positive and he will arrive soon.
The male bison has been doing his job and they think the new calf is just the first of many.
The two Carpathian lynx brothers have now left the park and they have brought in a young pair of european lynx. Altho young the female does look big and its thought she might be pregnant
And finally.. they received a new female red panda just a day ago... and are bringing in a new male next week ( i think thats what he said) so they are starting from scratch.
Thats all i can really remember.. need to start taking a note book...lol

Excellent news on the male Musk Ox.
Will the Wolverines from Edinburgh be moving up, or are they keeping the species at both collections?
Asiatic Black Bears would be fab!!
I was actually thinking about suitable species for HWP based on Mountain/Tundra habitats, & Asiatic Black Bears would be near the top of my list. Also thinking of Snow Leopards, Bearded Vultures, Himalayan Griffon Vultures, an Ibex species, and Tragopans other than Satyr.
Will the Wolverines from Edinburgh be moving up, or are they keeping the species at both collections?

Thanks for mentioning this part . That explains why only 3 females were mentioned in the recent Press release about the new male.
I think splitting the females to have potential breeding groups at two different sites is sensible- lessens the risk of a 'wipe-out' situation at just one place.
By my reckoning this means HWP have 1.3 and the SDC 2(?).2 That gives a total of 3.5.(8) But I seem to remember about 13-15 were initially imported from Berlin- I wonder what happened to the others?
Bactrian wapiti. I believe there are 2.1+ 1(female?) and that they plan to bring in some more females.

Do you know where he is coming from? I think by the age he maybe coming from Cologne though I am not sure, maybe he is coming from elsewhere in Europe (Netherlands?).

Regarding the Tragopans -
(I will try and explain this but please forgive me if i get anything wrong cause i cannot remember the exact name that he mentioned)... Within the Zoo community there are certain zoos that can transfer animals easier because they meet strict regulations about the health of their animals. There are also zoos outside this community... he called these third world zoos (i think). HWP now have the facility to take animals from these other collections, outside the 'normal' zoos, and quarantine them for other zoos and private within the UK. So with the Tragopans he is hoping to get some different species that are not commonly kept from these zoos and quarantine them.

Probably third party countries was mentioned. The quarantine needed for that is Balai / EEC regulated.
