Things that people do that annoy you anywhere

Irresponsible pet owners and parents get under my skin. Keep your dog on a leash and don't let your children run up to my dogs, please.

The wildlife ignorant. Yes, there are ways to live alongside wildlife that don't involve killing them.

Spammers! Nuff said.

Rude people in general.

Agreed, agreed and agreed.

Nothing to add. Except for:
People that don´t understand the concept of volunteering - "So you like work for free??"
People that don´t understand the difference between people interested in wildlife and animals rights activist "So you like animals? Are you one of those people that are protesting against zoos?"

And basically every person that is trying to implement religious rules and believes in schools, politics and other not-church-related places and institutions..

I know that grammar ones shouldn't bother me. Language is a living thing, etc, etc.

But I really can't stand people using 'of' instead of 'have' (or ' 've ') - as in 'could of', 'should of' or 'would of'. It's just horrible and very, very wrong.

Glad I got that off my chest! The worst of it is, it's increasingly people who otherwise write very well.

... English is my second language so I didn´t quite get that.. People use "of" instead of "have"? Like for example "I could of a beer because I wasn´t driving?"

I´ve never seen it used this way.. Who does that? :)

not if the "have" is a distinct word unconnected to the preceding one, as in your example "I could have a beer". It's when the "have" can be run into the preceding word (as in "I could have crashed the car" is the same as "I could've crashed the car"). The reason is because "could've" sounds similar to "could of".

I'm not sure I explained that very well.....

Oh yeah, I get it. Thanks.

It's quite an American thing (no offense meant to anyone) but you'll see it a lot in reality TV and movies. It's quite common to do it in Australia nowadays because we get so much American crap over here. I feel like strangling my friends when they do it on Facebook but we are allowed to use either British or American spelling for things so if it wasn't just plain wrong it would be understandable.

Edit: That sounds a lot ruder than intended.

The one that REALLY annoys me is when Americans (and it's only one group of Americans) pronounce the word "ask" as "axe". You hear it on Judge Judy a lot - "I wanted my money, so when he came over to my house and I axed him for it".

I hate that.

:p

I know this isn't a thing that people do that annoys me, but personally, the way social websites are changing is starting to really irritate me. This is just my opinion and I know it will probably conflict with others, but I hate the Facebook timeline. I don't think it's an improvement over the wall at all. I understand you can see people's/things' histories better, but it's harder to navigate. I also don't like the new YouTube channel layout. I personally find it harder to use than the original. This is just my opinion though, but I'm glad I got that off my chest.:p

Why are you watching Judge Judy? If you've ever seen Futurama they make deliberate reference to "axe" quite a lot. Its not just Americans though, its becoming quite common in NZ too - but then NZers are typically very lazy speakers with little regard for pronunciation.

Seeing we're talking pronunciation, the one I particularly hate is "ek setra" for et cetera.

OH, and "Anartica" for Antarctica. I mean, that's two entire letters dropped out! Totally ruined Alien vs Predator for me :D

You watch Judge Judy?

Will have to think what annoys me that isn't zoo related :p

My girlfriend [AgileGibbon] hates when Americans miss the 'o' out of record. They always pronounce it 'Recrrds'

the pinnacle of annoying things has been reached: careless lifeguards. This weekend while at a water park I saw a kid start struggling in the water so his dad and I both jumped in the water and the life guard who was standing three feet away the whole time didn't even ask the kid if he was okay!!
