Anteater Question?

After seeing the very fascinating Giant Anteater at Blackpool Zoo I was wondering if any collections in the UK have ever bred this species successfully or if any collection is thinking about breeding the species in the future.

Do you think any collection currently holding this species is capable of sustaining a breeding programme or would they have to increase the size of the enclosures they are currently held in?

Which other collections do you think should hold this species I would love Dudley Zoo or Birmingham Nature Centre to consider holding this species

I think Longleat have a recent youngster and Colchester currently have three giant anteaters that are all active frequently.

I'm sure Howletts have bred them at least twice, as i saw youngsters on visits several years apart. I think Colchester have had at least 2 or maybe 3 born in the last few years.

Giant Anteaters.

I believe the collections that now hold Giant Anteater excluding a few have bred theirs. I know that Blackpool haven't as they only recently arrived.

Amazon World- 1.1 (Bred quite a few)
Belfast- 1.1. (New pair)
Blackpool- 1.1.
Chester- 1.1.
Colchester- 2.1. (Bred 3.0)
Cotswold- 1.1.
Edinburgh- 1.1.1. (Bred 0.0.1 sex currently unknown)
Howletts- 1.1. (Bred one or two?)
Hamerton- 0.1.
London- 1.1. (Bred 2.0 in same litter, first ever twin breeding)
Longleat- 2.1. (Bred 1.1, with the 0.1 dns)
Marwell- 1.0. (Did have 2.0 then 1.0 then a female arrived and recently died)

Colchester have a good breeding record with their offspring going to Vienna, Cotswold (?) and a male still at Colchester.

Gilberto the male anteater at Colchester was born at London Zoo in 2003
