New snub-nosed monkey discovered in Burma

a new population of Tonkins was discovered earlier this year, so numbers are a bit better than thought: http://www.zoochat.com/65/new-population-tonkin-snub-nosed-monkeys-273655/

Yes, a smaller population will help in the long run, but the problem we are facing with them is the two mountain ranges are not connected and there is no way of safely getting them to the other population. If worse comes to worse and the population count comes back as only around 50-70 monkeys along the northern mountain top, than we would most defiantly have to figure out how to transport them. This "last resort" option is one, because the mountain the larger population is found on has been cultivated all around it, leaving no room for expanding the forest downwards.

Though the local people that have farmed in this area are very interested in the monkeys and are supportive of our efforts. They have helped us immensely. I do believe though, that this species will bounce back soon. There has been a lot of helpful work done in a short amount of time. Being that the monkeys are so isolated and the people of this mountain are now concerned for this animals safety, they no longer cultivate the mountain for their rice paddy fields. One other thing that is also calming to know is that the monkeys are breeding just fine. There are sightings of young with the group.

I think infoleather just doesn't understand the structure of haiku (or the number of syllables!). It should read:

"A stunning case of monkeys,
But sadly it is not surprising,
That endangered the new"

It's not a great haiku but perhaps he is just learning....
