"Have you noticed some changes around the elephant habitat? We’re making improvements to the containment barrier! The steel I-beams are replacing the old wooden posts and the habitat is being expanded from 3,600 square feet to more than 4,400 square feet! “New construction projects, like the Animal Wellness Campus, get the most attention, but ongoing improvements to existing habitats are also an important part of our commitment to provide the highest level of animal care possible for our residents,” said Roger Sweeney, the Zoo’s assistant director. 'Hopefully these improvements will also pave the way for an opportunity to add a third elephant to our herd.' "

Should that be 36,000 to 44,000? 4,400 is nothing for an elephant exhibit and there's must be much larger than that.
 
It is 4,400. Someone asked this question on their facebook page and this will be the new dimensions of their holding yard. I did not see that until now.

You are correct. When I was recently at the zoo I saw the progress and the alteration in the holding yard is so minimal that I doubt if any regular visitors will even notice.

OK, I didn't pick up on this being about the holding area.
 
@ mweb08: That's okay, I didn't pick up on it either. That's why I wanted to repost with the correct information. It makes sense to me now as I saw the construction going on in a smaller yard right next to their barn.
 
I am sad I missed the brothers during my last visit. They looked like very handsome tigers.
