hi all as many of you have been kind enough to recommend the must see exhibits and animals at zoos i havent been to before i thought id ask you to do the same for my 1st visit to chester zoo this weekend i would be very grateful and shall try my best to post a review after my visit for you all

Chester Zoo.

They have some very interesting exhibits including;

Bears of the Cloud Forest
Tsavo Black Rhino experience
Elephants of the Asian Forest
Asian Plains
Spirit of the Jaguar.

They have some very nice species too, including Sumatran Orangutans (One of three current holders in the UK), Okapi, Philippine Spotted Deer and the UK's only Tuatara.

They also have an excellent Black Rhino set up. You will also see Indian Rhino 'Asha' from ZSL Whipsnade.

A few more species that you might not want to miss:
hunting dogs - it's worth asking if they are to be fed on the day you visit
rock hyrax with babies - next to the hunting dogs
bush dogs - they have a very large pack now
giant otters
lesser Antillean iguanas & mountain chickens - in Islands in Danger (look for the Boelen's pythons too)
Burmese brow-antlered deer - Asian Plains
chimps - another large group
babirusa - their enclosure is beside the exit ramp from Realm of the Red Ape
the bats in the Fruit Bat Forest

Enjoy!

Best piece of advice I will give is make sure you have a full day and do the whole zoo, word of warning the map the zoo hands out is bloody awfull and not easy to follow,so if you use the map be carefull you don't miss anything!!

whilst in the 1st area of " spirit of the jaguar" with the large fish tank, look up, 2 toed sloth can usually be seen in the tree.

The best advice I can think of is to make sure you get there at opening because you will need all of the time you can get.

The Nile Crocodile is a zootierlist error!

Also the Red Natal duiker are Not on show, they did have one on-show but that animal has since died.At present none of the 3 animals they have are on-show,and will not likely be for sometime.

I went a couple of months ago and they were redoing the giant otter enclosure - you could only see them inside through glass, which was a bit of a shame.

The aviary was really something though.

I second the map being awful - twice I went where it said and it took me in the wrong direction. I have to say that isnt that unusual though, been to lots of zoo's like that!

The Tropical Realm - I thought that was excellent, although sadly I left it till the end (I'd never been before so didnt know what it was going to be like). I could have stayed in their for ages!

Which is a building and NOT an aviary,it does how ever have aviarys inside it!
