Anybody wanna buy an island?

Apparently there are budget islands available for the middle-class aspiring island owner as well as the mythical tropical islands that people like Johnny Depp and Richard Branson buy. Some islands come with significant biological resources like a bioluminescent lagoon on a Fiji island for sale.

If anybody here does buy a tropical island and needs someone to live on it and manage it for them, then drop me a message and we'll work out the details:)

My grandparents used to have an island, but then they filled in the channel and it became a peninsula.

Don't have it any more. And the "island" was about 25'x25' or something like that.

At $50k, you could probably buy your own, and I will gladly be a caretaker. :D

Do you remember a few years ago that Australia did a publicity stunt like that, billed the "The Best Job in the World"?

and then the person that won it was complaining because he actually had to work when he was at his job on the island!!

Really? Did he think that the turtles would be serving him pina coladas on their backs?

Hmmm.... I don't really remember him complaining though. What I remember, was him saying that it was much harder work than he anticipated and that people would imagine - not really complaining per se.

no, you're right. I re-read the article I'd read a while back and that's pretty much what it was. I think I was remembering more the comments from other people calling him a whinging pom or something like that :D

Bah. Sounds like they were jealous. I saw him on tv a couple months ago, and the job cost him his girlfriend, but he managed to meet another girl and they are engaged or married or something now.

I'm on an island right now. can't buy it, but I'm loving it!

well he could be in Tokelau. I'm just guessing; same as I do for birthdays.

I should say that I'm on an island too.

Tokelau - specifically Motuhaga Island in Nukunonu Atoll.

Pics and trip report are ready to upload once galleries are created.

you can only "out" someone if they haven't already admitted it themselves

True true. I'll be sure not to mention my holiday plans or birthday then. :D

Hix, is Tokelau a real country, or are you just making stuff up to taunt our geography-challenged American friends? :D

Nanoboy, by now you should have googled it, so you know the answer to your own question.

And while I admit that most of our American friends can be geographically challenged, it's a pretty safe bet that, until afew days ago, Chlidonias and myself were the only Zoochatters who knew of Tokelau's existence, let alone it's actual location. Well, maybe Zooboy28 and Kiwipo if they happen to have bumped into some migrants.

:p

out of curiosity I used the Zoochat search bar to see how many times Tokelau has been mentioned on here, and I got back exactly two results....er, neither of which were this thread!

This thread is listed there now.

And here's something you might like:
