Cryptozoology

These hoaxes just give cryptids a bad name. One day there will be conclusive evidence of their existence.
what makes you think it was a hoax? Sounds to me like a bigfoot really was hit and killed by a car and the government is covering it up.

Cheers! Looks like it was the most excitement in that part of the UK for a while. :D

Turns out that it was just a big domestic cat, and not a lion.

Four days later and this is still being discussed in the Media. Maybe because its still August , the 'silly season' for news or there isn't much else to report. It seems to have been the flimsiest of evidence initially for a Lion being at large too.

That's what must have happened as there are no pictures of a man in a suit, so it must be a Bigfoot. The body of the creature will now be in a secure fridge or freezer somewhere until the government decide to do something with it. There have been lots of hair samples taken of Bigfoots from different areas of America, but scientists cannot match them to bigfoot, as the government won’t let them (the scientists) carry out taxonomy on the field samples taken by the government.
I suspect that one of the reasons that Bigfoots cannot be Classified is that the government are then obviously accepting that Bigfoots live and also we would find out what they are most closely related to. By classifying the species the government would be virtually inviting people from all over the world to damage the Bigfoots habit in searching for them, thus putting the ecosystem under unnecessary strain. There would be peanut butter, snickers wrappers and fried crispy bacon everywhere (as this is a Bigfoots preferred diet) with people putting camera traps everywhere. So the more sightings we get or as mentioned above a collision that resulted in the death of a bigfoot, the government have to say it was a human in a suit who may have had a glass of moonshine too many to protect the Bigfoots out in the woods.

there have been quite a few sightings of bigfoots in the past that were connected to UFO sightings, so I think it's more likely that they are actually aliens (or artificial intelligences controlled by the aliens to gather data, possibly on bacon) and that is why the government is covering up the truth. It is a well-known fact that the American government (and those of various other countries) have had contact with aliens, either through deliberate meetings or via crashed/downed UFOs, and bigfoot is just an extension of this. I don't give much credence to the belief that bigfoots are Earth primates native to North America because there is no fossil evidence and realistically no way a large primate could have colonised the continent (humans excepted due to their cultural advantages).

Then who is to say that Bigfoot is not some sort of primitive tribe - like a remnant population of Neanderthals? No cover up: just a tribe of hunter-gatherers that tried to remain hidden from colonists. Do they still exist, in a country of 350m people? Probably not. Is Bigfoot based on fact? I definitely think so. :D

When bin laden was killed, I remember there was a sarcastic story going around that went something like this:

The government would like to announce that we have killed Bigfoot. We took pictures but we can't show you. We didn't keep it's body either - we buried it at sea - but take our word for it. Nonetheless, it is best if you still remain afraid, because another Bigfoot would take its place.

It makes sense that Bigfoots and Aliens could have some link together. Even an alien from the furthest planet would be doing well to resist the smell of bacon cooking outside in the woodlands, it seems conclusive now that fried porky treats attract Bigfoots. To add some further weight to the Bigfoot existence, Bigfoots may be able to make themselves invisible (as in the film Predator) for periods of time, hence the main proof we have is of foot prints. As an Englishman, I am somewhat disappointed that they don’t visit the UK, or at least stop and get out of their spaceships to stretch their legs when flying over. It was first broadcast on the Goodies show in 1982 that Stonehenge is actually a petrol pump for alien aircraft.

they used to in the olden days. Your ancestors called them wodewose ("wild man"). They appear to have forsaken your shores now though, in favour of America. The spaceships themselves still buzz the UK from time to time however.

following on from that:
Big cat mystery deepens as zoo keeper claims a new panther sighting in Mt Macedon | News.com.au
A WILDLIFE keeper has become the latest person to claim a panther sighting in Victoria.

The Wild Action zoo keeper said she was approaching the Mt Macedon zoo early this morning when the predatory cat ran came within metres of her before dashing off.

The former Parks Victoria ranger, who wouldn’t give her name, said while she was previously a skeptic, she was “adamant” the animal she saw was a panther.

“It was the size our dingos, it was on all four legs and it moved like a cat and it had a long tail coming after it,” she said.

“I know it sounds crazy and I wouldn’t have believed myself."

“(But) I’m so adamant of what I saw.”

The fresh sighting comes after the State Government recently announced a review into all reported sightings of the legendary big cat.

The keeper said she entered the gate to the zoo just after 6am.
She spotted what she thought was a wallaby trying to escape through fox wire, but it turned out to be a large black cat.

She said the animal bolted past her through the open gate, before she ran to hide in the reptile shed.

“I was so scared, thinking I was going to die,” she said.

Wild Action owner Chris Humfrey, who is experienced in tracking wild cats, said the animal’s footprints were consistent with a large cat.

He also said two large Western Grey Kangaroos and a Cape Barren Goose had recently been found decapitated nearby.

Mr Humfrey said he would set thermal imaging cameras around the zoo to record the animal if it returned.

Chris Humfrey had a show on TV last year I think, which was like a doco that followed him around at home and at work (doing wildlife shows for schools and in malls etc). I stopped watching, because he kept all his snakes in these really tiny drawers - and I mean some massive pythons. But anyway, I digress....

Hmmm.... zoo-keepers should be considered reliable witnesses in this situation, however:

1. Based solely on her description, I would dismiss the claim of it being a panther, because we are poor judges of size (and indeed, estimating anything - weight, numbers in a crowd, height etc) and it is probably just a large feral cat

2. But, Chris said he saw the footprints and thinks it really is a black panther (jaguar or leopard or 60's activist :D?). It becomes quite easy from here: surely he can take some photos and send them to experts for identification? (I assume, of course, that 'panther' paw-prints are distinguishable from domestic cat prints.)

zoo-keepers should be more reliable witnesses, but not necessarily. They are only human after all. In this case she is a former Parks Victoria ranger and now works at a "zoo" that does not have any big cats anyway, so she's really no more experienced in identifying a panther than any regular zoo-goer. I remember when Orana Park sent out some people to "investigate" a panther sighting in Canterbury (NZ) several years ago, and the "big cat expert" on the search was the head of their maintenance department who had some free time.

In the case of the animal's size, if she at first thought it was a wallaby then I'd say a big domestic/feral cat is far more likely than a panther.

As for the footprints, Chris didn't say (at least in this article) they were the prints of a "black panther", he said a "large cat", which you can take whichever way you like I guess.

It would be interesting if he did set up some camera traps and got shots of a panther though!!

(Just as an aside, if you open the article there's a photo of a black feral/domestic cat labelled as a "mystery large black cat")

Mmmmm ...... publicity......

:p
