Rise of the Planet of the Apes

I think that this film is one of the best uses of motion capture to create believable non-human characters to date. This was definitely my favorite "Planet of the Apes" movie. Does anybody else feel the same way? It may be a model movie for how to successfully reboot an old series. Tim Burton's remake seems like a model of how NOT to reboot a series.

This is definitely my favorite movie of all time. So excited they're making a sequel! It'll be called Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and comes out in May 2014. A while from now but still very excited!

Have to say l was also very exited to hear they are making a sequel, I was hoping they would then heard nothing after the movie came out so figured they would not, actually seems a little strange that it took so long to announce the sequel.
 
Yeah, it's unfortunate that director Rupert Wyatt of the first movie quit after having to deal with the pressure of reassuring the sequel's release date on May 23rd, 2014, as he said it would be too early of a date if he were to make the sequel fantastic like the first film. After all that he did to Rise of the Planet of the Apes to make it the amazing film it is, I'm a little dissapointed to hear him leave for good.

Matt Reeves, director of the 2008 film Cloverfield, which was also a great film, stepped into the director's chair and took control. His first and best creation, Cloverfield, was just fantastic, his movie-making skills sure are impressive, I just hope he makes Dawn of the Planet of the Apes epic like its precursor.

No, I have seen Cloverfield many times, and just in my opinion, it's a great and unique film. I just hope director Matt Reeves does a great job just like Rupert Wyatt did with this new entry in the Planet of the Apes series. :)
 
Thanks for the new information DavidBrown. But what happened to James Franco from the last movie? I thought he was going to star as the human character. Such a shame to hear that he left. I'm glad that Andy Serkis is returning to the role of Caesar. Glad to hear that. He did such a great job in portraying Caesar in the last film.

Maybe they will address what happens to James Franco's character in the movie. Maybe he will be in it even in a cameo or something. Time will tell.
 
What virus in the credits? I recall the movie ending with the apes high up in the trees looking down on the city. Oh, this was the only movie I have ever been to where the audience broke out in spontaneous applause at the end because it was just so good!

Also, I quite liked Cloverfield. I remember there being posters at the cinema warning patrons that they may experience motion sickness during the movie. :D
 
I see the whole shaky cam thing as cheap, lazy, and amateur. My old home movies have better cinematography. And anyone can pick up a camera and start filming. It takes a professional to be able to plan shots instead of just running around with a Wal-Mart camera. What do you do when you don't know how to choreograph a fight scene or action sequence? Do the shaky cam thing so no one can tell what's going on. And you can always use the excuse that you were seeking to add realism, when you actually can't direct a paper bag. If you want to learn how to do a proper action sequence, watch "Raiders of the Lost Ark" or "Terminator 2". If you want to see how a hand-held scene should be done without all the unnecessary shaking, check out "Saving Private Ryan".

Watch the end credits of the movie again. It shows the transmission of the virus that the airline pilot neighbor was carrying as it spreads from continent to continent and presumably wipes out most of the humans.
 
I wonder if the apes will be talking in the next film or if they're going to save it for the last film, assuming they're just going to make a trilogy out of this.

I didn't manage to find a clip of the credits on youtube so I will just have to wait for the recap in the sequel.
