Living Coasts (Closed) My visit on the 17th August

To return to the original thrust of the thread, before talk of extraordinary-sounding private collections, I'd have to say that I think Living Coasts is one of the finest zoo experiences in the UK. And those I know who have visited - non zoo people, who are sometimes a bit sniffy about zoos - have loved it too. There's a real sense of quality, of things having been done wel there - it's very unlike so many British zoos in that regard. I can't understand the comments about the collection lacking stars - as is said above, this is one of the best and most interesting avian collections in the land (aside from those private ones, possibly!). I suppose this is a fairly subjective thing though - one man's bank cormorant is another man's Harris hawk. But the aviaries being small? Really? Given that the whole place is basically one big aviary, how can this possibly be so?

that's something I was wondering about as well, because on the recent "walk-through aviary" thread this place was brought up as having one of the largest!

I feel people are trying to say that I am lying well if thats the way they feel then let it be I am not going to get involved in an y sillyness which occurs on here every now and then just because I chose to write a truthfull review.

Any silliness has nothing to do with your review (that's your opinion, you're entitled to it and others are entitled to analyse, clarify and contest your opinion if they wish). The silliness, as you put it, is to do with your extravagant claims that "tufted puffins, Bank Cormorants, Pigeon Guillemots and Red Legged Kittiwakes are pretty common at private collections within the UK and Europe" and that "many Private collections in Europe breed these species regularly" which I and others find difficult to believe.

I would not make any statement on here without knowing it to be correct with information gained from well trusted people or other websites.

So are you now saying you've not seen the claimed birds yourself but are quoting other people and websites (any chance of links to these websites)?

Finally, thanks for the clarification on the photos taken, that all makes sense now. I wouldn't like the editing job you'll have to deal with.

Adrian1963- The most recent Studbooks show no Gorillas or Orangutans currently held in any private collections in the UK, contrary to what you posted. Unless you can prove otherwise that what you posted is correct in that respect, we'll take it as a deliberate attempt to mislead, so its not surprising, and given your past history with this sort of thing, that people now query any other unrealistic claims that you make.

I dont think we can take Adrian1963 very seriously at all...to suggest that people in european aviculture have/breed Ibisbills is akin to suggesting that Robin van Persie has got a Yangtse River Dolphin and he has taken it north to its new Manchester home!There is no record of the Ibisbill EVER having been in aviculture[sadly].

You never know, these footballers earn far too much money and many of them have big pools..
