Chester Zoo Chester 2012 #4

Any news on when the lesser kudu will go on public display?

Have been on show for several months now (next to the Roan Antelope)

...and the birth of the latest member of the Orangutan family has been announced. It's another girl :D

They have been on display for a while, the paddock next to the roan antelope, although there was no sign for them when I was there two weeks ago

Also no sign for the red-fronted lemurs. The education staff are usually more efficient.

Work is being carried out in the Tapir/Capybara paddock (on the pool at the front - real logs are being replaced with lovely fake ones, it would appear) - the Tapir are still in the house with access to the hard standing and bark covered outdoor exhibits, but there was no sign of any Capybara.

Considering how waterlogged and flooded the paddock was on Saturday due to recent inclement weather, it may be that the Capybara are being kept offshow for the safety of the recently born individuals.

Thought it may have been something along those lines, the paddock was very boggy and the bad weather may be a reason for the logs being replaced?

I don't think it's cropped up on the Chester threads yet, but it's been confirmed that Chester has sent an Aardvark (male, obviously) to Blackpool Zoo.

Cynic. They'll be on show when it's best for mother and offspring and they've finished bonding.

That'll explain why they've all been on show whilst 65% of the local schools in the area, Wirral and Liverpool district have been on their half term break........;)

it's the zoo's last big gates reciepts chance before christmas - off course they are going to make the most of the baby boom, makes fiscal sense!
I have no doubt that they would use the 'bonding time' wisely to allow them to make full use of the 'come and see our new babies for the first time' attraction factor either - why not, they work hard enough to successfully breed their stock!?
