Not to mention that MrOkapi guy, who spends his time making pointless new threads that have already been made, and busts into conversations he was never a part of.

Hey I busted into this conversation. It was origianly between Anaheim Zoo and BZF. I tend to make threads that are popular for a few days and then never get visited again. Then again, I've only been a ZooChatian (patten pending) for like 9 days and my Big Cat thread is only 6 days old and my nonsense thread I made a few hours ago.
 
The zoo closed 3:00 P.M. today, and will reopen tomorrow at noon. The zoo is coping with the loss of one of their longtime staff members.
 
My guess is- The Amur Tigers, American Bison, Canada Lynx, and perhaps Desmond are loving the snow and the American Alligators, Chacoan Peccaries, American Rheas, Maned Wolves, and Helmeted Guinea Fowl are silently cursing under their visible breath:D
I assume Beardsley I handling the storm fine. After last year's freak October storm (which just so happens to have been the same week as Sandy) they're probably ready to face whatever Athena has to offer.

I'm sure that the animals that you think are cursing are really enjoying the fact that they're warm and indoors.;)
 
You have snow in Connecticut right now? We haven't got any, over here. Not even from Sandy (which caused blizzards everywhere else in West Virginia).

Still snow, but very little besides for the woods and the areas we don't mind if snow gets into.

Wish I could go. My dad is always exploring things like this and schooling opportunities for me. I might be going to the Bronx Zoo's summer program. Strange that they'd have it during the school week and not in a weekend when more teens would have the chance to go. If it was on Saturday or something I could go probably.
 
The zoo will close tomorrow at 1:00 P.M.
31 Brook Trout were released into the Pequonnock River.

Had a nice jaunt to the zoo today.
Damage from Hurrican Sandy is still evident throughout the zoo.
Nothing has been placed in the summer tortoise exhibit.
The zoo hasn't acquired Gray Wolves yet to replace the two that died.
The Maned Wolf viewing hut is completed! Now, guests can get excellent views through glass at those beautiful dogs.
The boardwalk for the Chacoan Peccary exhibit is closed due to damage from Sandy. The peccaries are still viewable from the glass panels though.
The Black-Tailed Prairie Dogs are still out.
There are several exhibits with pumpkins in them for enrichment.
The Canada Lynx enclosure was spruced up with pine tree branches, pumpkins, and box enrichment. Not sure if any of it is permanent.
Rizzo and Necedah, the otters, are getting along much better now. Thumbs crossed for pups soon!
The barnyard's main exit has been sealed off, and there is now a door to exit.
I think one of the Dexter Cattle might have died.
A new bird was added to the chicken coops, but I don't recognize it. Will post a pic later.
There are 3 goat kids in the New England Farmyard. Not sure if born here or brought here, but cute new additions.
The Cattle Egret has been brought indoors in South American Rainforest, from its summer home in Alligator Alley.
The Agoutis are in the Goeldi's Monkey/White-Bellied Caique Exhibit.
The zoo is working on renovations to the old bear exhibits. They seem quite disappointing so far, but they still have to add new features. However, if they don't enlarge the exhibit size, then I'll be very disappointed at the finished leopard exhibit.

Sounds like a nice visit. Did you ask a keeper about the search for Timbers? Is there anything new going on with Pampas Plains construction or animal wise? When I went in September there was only one Dexter Cattle. I'm glad the agoutis were moved, it was too hard to find them on the other side of the exhibit. Is the Andean Bear cage still standing?

What's the verdict on our sloth friend?
